My husband and I visited the Blue Dragon on a recommendation from a friend. We called ahead and reserved right in front of the stage. A well known local JohnKeave was playing a show that night. www.johnkeawe.com/‎

The restaurant is an open air venue and is beautiful. Our food was delicious, the service was great and the entertainment unmatched.

The prices are reasonable but not cheap. It was a place we wil return to again and again.

This is one of the best restaurants on the big island. My wife and I went to the Blue Dragon with another couple for dinner. We called ahead and reserved a table outside on the patio. By sitting outside we avoided the cover charge. A live band started up at 6 or 6:30 - they were quite good. I had the fresh catch of the day while others had pork, chicken and waffles, and lamb. The menu is eclectic, fresh and hard to decide what to have. If you haven't been to this restaurant you should give it a try. It is on the more expensive end of the price spectrum.

If you're on the big island of Hawaii, don't miss going to dinner at the nearby Blue Dragon Coastal Cuisine and Musiquarium located a few miles north just beyond the start of Hwy 270 off of Hwy 19 (north of the Hapuna Prince and Mauna Kea hotels). Great food. Rocking band with dance floor. Outstanding, friendly service.

If you're staying at one of those hotels, this is a great option to driving all the way down to Kona. Don't be put off by the looks. It's not on the ocean side and parking lot is cramped. Once inside you don't even know that. Open air ceiling. Patio area is nice.

And food is amazing.

We have been to the Blue Dragon many times. The atmosphere is interesting in that it's location doesn't offer much of a view, but the open air setting can be stunning on a moonlit night. They usually feature local sources of food, fresh locally grown vegetables, fresh locally caught fish and such. They also often feature good quality music and entertainment that makes for a nice night out. We usually like to go when they host the only live salsa band on the island. While the dance floor is not optimal, we always have a great time. Prices are reasonable.

Maybe we made a mistake in going to The Blue Dragon on our first night on the Big Island. We were tired from the long flight, but went on a friend's recommendation. We were shocked at the small amount of food served for the price and thought it was just okay. The atmosphere was interesting, no view but the sky - which was good because it sits across from an industrial shipping area. We did not stay for the music, so we may have missed the best part. We just were not impressed overall.
