Because the Hawaiian language did not have a written language, this church has parts of Christianity's story painted inside the church. Beautiful

“Painted Church by Place of Refuge”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

This small historical church is not far away from Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park (Place of Refuge). What made this church so famous is the hand-painted murals on each side of the church walls. Each mural depicts the story taken out of Christian Bible. It's amazing to appreciate the arts and the fact that it still lasts till this century.

“worth the stop”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

This was not on our agenda as a place to stop, we got lost leaving Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park and stumbled across this place. It is a short stop 15-30 min. not far from Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park. The grounds are just as amazing as the inside of the church. The sell local crafts on the honor system outside. I would definitely check this place out it is worth the short stop.
