“Great food”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

Stopped here twice on the way to Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau, once for take-out, once for eat-in. The food and coffee were great both times for everyone. The lox bagel and the veggie chowder were both fantastic.

“frappe heaven and a great bathroom”
Reviewed February 2, 2012

Right on the way back to Kailua from your snorkel trip to 2 step at Honaunau...a bit of a tricky entrance and exit into the parking lot, it is at the intersection highway 11 and the turn to City of Refuge (across from the Honaunau post office, where they advise you not to put your baby on the counter)
The best Frappe we found on the island...including Lava Java. Made with coffee ice cubes, ice cream, chocolate bits and a shot of whipped cream...you will not need to eat lunch OR dinner.

The pastry is good there also -- the mac nut short bread is great and the expresso short bread will keep you going on the long drive to the volcano. We did not eat lunch there but the offerings looked good on paper and on the plate. Nice little outside garden dining room as well.

My wife was taken by the iced latte and by the bathroom -- clean and with fresh flowes and all that. The young lady behind the counter said "that is her mom's touch". Nice folks and a good place to stop for a treat.

“Brilliant!”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

We stopped here twice after snorkeling at Two Step. What a wonderful restaurant. Everyone here is filled with Aloha and the food is fresh, inventive and tasty. I loved that most of the items were local farm to table foodstuffs. We have been to Hawai'i several times and never tasted white pineapple...delicious! They also gave us a smoothie sample and my lactose intolerant husband was in heaven. Needless to say he ordered a large one to go.
This place is squeaky clean and I wouldn't have any reservations about eating here again. The location is perfect for an after snorkel snack or lunch, just when your tank hits empty!

“Got a bad case of food poisoning from eating a special in this place”
Reviewed December 16, 2011

Stopped at this place on the way from Kona to the Volcano park. Had a BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw. It was on a daily special. 30 min after eating this meal, I had a bad case of food poisoning. The place looked quite clean, actually, but either the staff did not wash their hands before handling my food or they tried to unload "close to the expiration date" stuff on special. I had to stop to take a [...] on the side of the road three times, with my wife and my mother and brother in law in the car, quite embarrassing. Two lessons learned: (1) Always have a roll of toilet paper in the trunk of a rental and (2) Stay away from specials in this place.

“Best Fresh Ahi Sandwich in South Kona”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

We happened upon the Kona Coffeehouse & Cafe while driving down to South Point. If you're driving south on Highway 11 (Mamaloa Highway) you can't miss it. There fresh Ahi sandwich was amazing- perfectly grilled and large piece of fish! The young lady behind the counter was a delight, too! The only regret is that we came at the end of the lunch time and the people just ahead of us took the last samples of sticky bun- it must have been good, they were raving. Oh well, we'll have to go back the next time were on island.
