“A sacred place”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

A really cool national park. Excellent written self guided walking tour. The cell phone tour was not as good but we didn't need the additional information, the written brochure was very good. Turtles and a monk seal basking on the shore where the royal canoes used to come in. You can't help but feel the sacred nature of the site. A must see

“A little piece of history”
Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

This is a great place to learn a little bit about ancient Hawaiian history. It's a quick self guided tour. Quiet and beautiful setting. A short walk up the hill leads to a stunning view of the ocean. Also has a cove for snorkeling or just relaxing and cooling off.

“Hawaiian Culture”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

This is a very interesting and beautiful area with history of Hawaiian culture and traditions in a very casual and at the same time dramatic setting. It is self guided tour but with informal talks and presentaions along the way by native Hawiians who tell the stories that add to the reality and depth of history of the culture.

“A window to another time........”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Just spending an hour or two at this Big Island site can give you some perspective on the
history and culture of Hawaii. The walk throughout the reconstructed sites is flat and pleasent,
and the interperative markers are very interesting.

There is also a well-stocked gift shop, staffed mostly by native Hawaiians, which has a lot of hard-to-find books and crafts.

As others have mentioned here, this is a must see on your Big Island trip. I am so grateful to the state of Hawaii for preserving this spot, and doing such a good job in making it accessible.

“So wonderful”
Reviewed November 1, 2012 via mobile

I have come to this spot many times over the past two decades and have seen the attraction grow. It is so worth the visit. Not only is it informative and you get to have a small taste of ancient Hawaii you can swim with Honus (turtles). This visit I was able to the most beautiful scenery photos that several people have suggested I try to submit them for postcards or calendars.

I think the biggest compliment that I can give is that my family talks about this place long after our trip. Please don't miss visiting if you have the chance!
