This should be a must to visit. It tells you a lot about the History of the Hawaiian people. It could use more info at some of the stops. We walked out on the lava and watched turtles in the water in several places feeding. We really loved this hike. Very easy and nice to be down by the ocean.

You should make it a point to catch the regular park ranger talks. He's such a character and you get to learn so much more about this place. For example, the seawalls are hundreds of years old and it's stood the test of time and weather!

The monument itself is outstanding, but we spent most of our day at "two-step", snorkeling and playing at the small beach alongside the rocks and tide pools. We saw sea turtles, dolphins (with whom we swam!), and majestic coral. We'll be going back! My 2-year-old played for hours with local kids at the baby beach, and had her best beach day yet.

There is such a feeling of peace that fills this site. This could be a more meaningful experience if there were more opportunities to learn. There was a native speaking about the Hawaiian's believe in the cycle of life, I wish there were more opportunities to understand what bound the Hawaiian people to these islands.

The location is awesome and very beautiful. It's easy to imagine the great Ali'i selecting this area as one of their major settlements on the Big island.
We always walk through this area after snorkeling at Two Step across the bay. There is a super peaceful feeling here , especially at the far end of the park. This area of the park is equipped with port a potties and grills which would make this a great spot for a picnic, which many locals seem to use for this purpose.
The surf crashing on the lava , the coconut palms and noni bushes, and the peaceful setting make this place very special.
