We enjoyed our visit. It was easy to see the highlights in a short period of time and continue on sightseeing. Definitely worth the visit.

“Interesting Cultural/Historic Site”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

Though reputedly a turtle hang, we didn't see any -- the main thing here is the Place of Refuge, which has an intriguing story and is very interesting to walk around. I definitely recommend taking the time to do this with the visitor guide handy, audioguide on your phone, or with a ranger if available.

“Interesting sample of original Hawaii”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

The park provides a self guided tour which we took or ranger guided tours twice daily. It is well laid out with an easy to follow trail. The original walls are amazing - stones fitted together without mortar. You can get some sense of what Hawaii must have been like for the royals before the arrival of Europeans.

When we were there, there was a turtle basking on the beach at the landing area and more swimming in the incredibly clear waters around the rocks.

This is a short drive from St. Benedict's painted church so well worth doing both in one visit.

“turtles, history, statues”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

White beaches with coconut palms, beautifully carved statues, lots of turtles, tidal pools...what a great value for $5. No snorkeling allowed but you can easily do that in the bay right before this site, within walking distance.

“"The City of Refuge"”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Small park with great history. Park rangers are on site giving timed presentations which are very interesting. The carvings are spectacular here. The hand built walls are awesome and have lasted thru all types of weather.
