“Great island history lesson”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

It doesn't take long to get there or walk through. Leave for the Volcano an hour early and visit a National Park that takes you. Back in Hawaiian time and see and experience how the first Hawaiians lived and worshiped.
Entrance fee is when they have a anger staffing the shack.

“Well worth at least a quick stop”
Reviewed November 17, 2012 via mobile

Our family stopped here after snorkeling at Two Step next door, and it was very interesting. Since our kids love working for the jr ranger badges, we picked up the pamphlets and the kids eagerly ran off to begin. We learned so much here about old Hawaiian culture. We sat through a ranger talk, and she was informative and knowledgeable.

“Walk through history”

Enjoyed the ranger talk and walk around the sandy beach park - especially marveled at the ancient rock wall constructed so well even the tsumani didn't break it down.

“A sacred place of Hawaiian history”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is a peaceful, spiritual place to walk about and reflect on the ancient history of the Hawaiian people. Here defeated warriors and kapu (taboo) violators could find sanctuary and the pardon of the resident kahunas (priests) in order to return to community life of the island. There is a self guided tour of many sights which are explained in a pamphlet obtained at the visitor center. Also, at certain times each day there are tours guided by park personnel and in an amphitheatre you can see demonstrations of various Hawaiian crafts.
A long hike is also possible over the lava covered 180 acre site along the coastline where you see the remains of ancient villages. An oceanfront picnic site is also a great spot to bring your lunch and barbecue pits are located at each picnic table.

“Place of Refuge”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Visied here in the late afternoon. Cost was $ 5.00 for the car, which was reasonable, we really enjoyed this place, very peaceful, worth visiting if you are in the area.
