Great sushi! Fresh fish and moderate price for the desert. We chose the restaurant from fellow trip advisors and they were right!!

“Awesome!”

this is my favorite sushi restaurant. I love the Red Dragon. The atmosphere is good, service is awesome, food is yummy! I also enjoy the dim sum. Sesame balls are very good. Sushi is always fresh and tastes great.

“Fantastic Sushi in Albuquerque”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

After 3 months as a transplant to Albuquerque I was ready to give up on finding good sushi until I took advice from fellow Trip Advisors about Sumo Sushi. Thanks to all who wrote about this place because it will now be my place to go for my seafaring fix.

Sumo Sushi is a small cozy place located downtown near the Wells Fargo building. The sushi bar is situated in the middle and is surrounded by tables. The menu is elaborate but includes many of the standard fare. I ordered the sushi plate which was very reasonably priced and included eight nigiri sushi pieces and a roll (choice of 4 or 5 including tiger rolls). This was accompanied by piping hot miso soup and a small salad. The chef's choice was generous and the fish fresh tasting and rice perfectly seasoned. Of course when it comes to sushi, I'm greedy. I also had a spicy salmon hand roll and a pair of unagi nigiri, the latter had eel hot from the oven. Sumo has a wide variety of beer and sake.

My test of a good sushi joint is whether they have Shiso, the spicy leaf in the mint family usually served with sashimi. Sure enough they did and served me a few leaves on the side.

Sumo Sushi is operated by a Korean couple who make you feel very welcome. On this night, felt both welcome and satiated and elated to have finally found real sushi in the desert.

Plenty of parking is on the premises. Oh and one of the family members also runs the adjacent Dim Sum restaurant (Amer-Asia) in the same building, which my fellow trip advisors have also rated as excellent. That will be for another visit.

“The sushi is good, the Dim Sum is better!”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

The best Dim Sum in Albuquerque! Sumo Sushi and Amerasia share the same space. As good of a Dim Sum selection as we have found in much larger cities, except Chinatown in San Francisco. Really good food and attentive service. For $30, you can have a freshly made dim sum feast! Hard to beat this place for the value and quality of the food.

“Good sushi!”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

A good sign at a sushi restaurant is a busy restaurant. And Sumo was quite busy with people eating at the restaurant and others taking to-go orders. The building is really cool - old maintenance/ vehicle shop. We enjoyed several sushi rolls and sake.

We walked out impressed!
