Ranked #70 of 143 Hotels in Albuquerque

We booked this hotel for all it's amenties. The property needs attention like you would not believe. Thought they would get it together for the Balloon Fiesta. Hot tub is hot but only one jet works. Pool is fithy. Rooms need a lot of updating. No inside lock on doors. Photos and info on Balloon Fiesta site and their own personal site do not represent the hotel. Sales manager agreed the photos were not of this hotel. No restaurant on site as stated.

PlazaInn, Director of Sales at Howard Johnson Albuquerque Midtown, responded to this reviewResponded October 9, 2013

As Sales Manager, I met personally with this couple. They were very upset because of a link on the internet that had not been updated when our restaurant unexpectedly closed. Even though we try to contact and correct every site, there are so many websites and links that things sometimes slip through. I assured them we do our best to compensate by shuttling them to any restaurant they wanted and would even pick-up and deliver to their room, if they preferred. I also told them that I would not object if the thrid-party website they had booked the reservation through would refund their money or find them another hotel - which was all I could do. Next, the gentleman began complaining about our pool, but the Front Desk Manager assured him as with all hotel pools, ours has to pass regular inspections with the City. Our Maintence Engineer is a licensed to maintain the pool and hot tub, so it is not "filthy". "No inside lock on doors" is unfounded as all of our doors are equipped with dead bolts and there is a label on each door explaining how to operate them. The statement "Sales manager agreed the photos were not of this hotel" was certainly not made by me. The only thing I discussed was the list of amenties on the reservation site which listed "restaturant", and which I acted immediately to have corrected. I am truly sorry that this guest was expecting something we did not have - but our staff did everything possible to make their stay a pleasant one - and they did choose to stay rather than pay the higher rates other hotels are asking for Balloon Fiesta rates.

Checked all the reviews and ratings before booking for this weekend to attend the Balloon Fiesta for our 24th Anniversary. CONS: Trash cans on either side of entry way overflowing. Carpets with mega stains. Dings in walls. Wallpaper falling off walls. Paneling falling off doors. Extremely poor television quality even in breakfast lounge. No movies--even for pay. Balcony--but no chairs to sit out there. Super slow wi-fi internet service. Very noisy from hallways and other rooms. Pool was not heated--quite cold/unusable. Odor of chlorine in halls burned our eyes. Saw a posting that said they had an on-site restaurant and lounge, but it's long been closed. PROS: Only paid $100/night with taxes; employees all friendly.

Good afternoon.

Thank you for staying at our property. I am so sorry about your experience at the property. We strive for our guest to have the best experience possible and we dropped the ball with your stay. We are a 100% non smoking hotel since i have started as GM. I am also very bothered by smoke and cannot stay in a room that smells of it. We are under new management and ownership and are cleaning up our hotel. It is no longer the Plaza Inn and is now the New Howard Johnson Hotel Midtown.

For that I am so sorry. We train our staff every week in cleaning our rooms as we would our homes. We also concentrate on training our team with excellent customer service. I hope that you can give us a second chance int he near future.

Our hotel is under going some amazing renovations in all of the public areas and the guest rooms, however the guests rooms may not be done until September of 2015. We would love for you to come and stay with us again and see our growing changes.

Our breakfast is our proudest growth and is totally amazing. We have a full hot breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs, cheese omelets, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls, french toast, gluten free bagels, boiled eggs, Otis Spunkmeyer Freshly baked muffins, Biscuits & Gravy, Yogurts , ...etc so much more. Also, from 4pm-8pm daily we have freshly baked cookies, iced lemon tea and hot coffee.

We also have a free local shuttle that goes within city limits and to the airport . Flat screen TV's in all guests rooms. A newly renovated Pool and hot tub, Pet Friendly, Wyndham reward program, Free USA Today newspapers & onsite catering for meetings and banquets. We have also transformed our lobby and have knocked down some walls to open it up and create a more open feeling. We also have Chalk Board paint on all of our breakfast tables where guests can draw and play games. This has been a huge success and we invite you to come and give us a second try. For Kids we have a Treasure chest, where every kid gets a toy and we have a designated kids Zone with toys and books. We are also transforming 20 rooms to Kid themed rooms with batman, Spiderman, minions, beauty and the beasts, Frozen, cinderella & many more. As you can see, like any aged diamond in the rough, with a little TLC, we are looking better and creating memorable stays for the better!

When you stay with us its better than staying with family! Were one of the cleanest properties in new mexico and we won't nag you.

We welcome you back anytime!!

Property needs a lot of work but it was cheap, clean, and a hot breakfast was included. Plus, there was a fridge and microwave in our room, and the door opened onto a balcony. There's also a pool and hot tub. Great location too - convenient too everything. If you're looking for fancy, then don't bother. But if you're looking for a good deal and don't need "perfect", check it out.

I concur with several other fellow travelers. I thought the room with fine for our needs. My husband and I were in Albq for doctor appointments. The Plaza Inn was conveniently close to them. The room and bathroom were very clean, with a smaller tv, microwave, small refrigerator and small coffeepot . We are constant coffee drinkers. The Staff was excellent. They were very friendly and outgoing. The room had wi-fi access ( once we figured it out lol), not the staffs fault. The price was right with our fixed income, as well the free breakfast. We will be returning to Albq, so we'll be staying at the Plaza Inn again. Thank you for our enjoyable stay!

I think the sliding glass doors need to be adjusted. If the hotel is booked there is not enough seating and Tables to eat breakfast. Night auditors need to pay attention to the slips on the cars. I had my pass for the car to be in parking lot and received a letter stating I could not park there. If my car was towed the Hotel would have received the bill for towing. The Hot tub jets needs to be fixed. Overall the hotel was quiet and nice to stay.

I don't get it, there's no reason for this place to have such bad reviews, it was a great little hotel for the money! I paid $140 for two nights (tax/fees included) and had a great stay. The beds were fine, there was a microwave right in the room, bathrooms were nice and clean, there was a nice view from the window and most importantly, the hotel was very close to the University and Nob Hill. It was also fairly close to downtown. I rented a car so I have no idea about the shuttle but regardless, it was a good location. The staff were also very helpful and real down to earth.

I think what this hotel needs to do is encourage your attendees to write a review on TripAdvisor, because these reviews are not representative of the hotel at all.

this hotel is a great value. it is an older hotel with a good location. they have a shuttle to take you to the airport and nearby attractions. housekeeping did a great job with keeping the room clean and all of the employees made out stay very enjoyable.

Room Tip: we asked for a view of the mountains and enjoyed it.
