La Quinta Inn Albuquerque Northeast

The main reason for staying was that US AIR offered 700 frequent flier miles. When we checked in we encountered the dirty wash cloth in bathroom. The recliner chair was broken and part of it was on the floor. The televison did'nt work nor did the wi fi signal. When I called the front desk to complain about the tv the clerk said that the person who repaired them left at 5pm and she was the only one on duty. She did offer another room but we had been driving for 10 hours and did feel up to repacking and moving. The clerk called back and said that the room was to be free. The next morning when I checked out I talked to the morning clerk and he said that during the week there was only one person on duty so not much help was available. When I called La quinta about my miles I could not recieve them because the room had been comped. We have stayed at this hotel at least six times in the past but never again. It has gone down hill rapidly.

To sleep in a furnace or in a mechanical room. That’s the question. As rooms go, the La Quinta at Albuquerque, New Mexico is overpriced for a “family grade” hotel. At $100 per night I found it below my standard. Perhaps the price was so high because its July and tourist season. But, they do allow pets which is a plus when you are looking for a place to stay on short notice. Pay attention, because I didn’t say it was a “quiet” place to stay. The air conditioning unit was so loud that it was impossible to watch TV with any sound no matter how loud you turned the volume up. Try sleeping through that one night. Of course you could always turn the A/C off and use the heat to sweat off a few pounds. It’s your choice.

Hotel staff are courteous and easy going. That’s nice. And the complementary breakfast is edible, at children’s standards. On the pet scale La Quinta rates a 5 star. The inner courtyard allows for pet walking and is outfitted with a doggie station for that necessary cleanup. The dog loved it! I appreciated not having to walk the dog out in the parking lot too.

Don’t plan on using the swimming pool or the Jacuzzi while you’re there unless you thrive on swimming in children’s expectorants. The kids don’t seem to mind though. So for a family place to stay La Quinta offers just about what you’d expect, say, for $79 per night. So I can’t give them good marks on price. But the bed comfort was good and at least my back didn’t ache when I rose the next morning. That means something.

If you want to be put in the back next to the freeway, away from the front desk, pool if across the parking lot, and no body else in this section, this is your place.
If you want to have the air conditioner blowing right on you at all times (no way to move the bed) this is your place
If you want the complementary bottle of shampoo used before you get there, this is your place
If you really like to stand around in the lobby waiting for the front desk staff to return about 15 minutes, this is your place
if you want to haul your suitcases up 2 flights of stairs...this is your palce
yes after 1 night we checked out and went across the street
remember not all LaQuinta are the same!

I have stayed in many La Quintas in different cities, and maybe that is why my family & I were so disappointed in this one. The overall environment of the hotel is unpleasant. There are dog & bird droppings everywhere. There is a pervasive smell of skunk & cigarettes. The outside trashcans smell and attract flies into the rooms. The breakfast consists of plastic-wrapped pastries and coffee that was always out. There was no fitness room as we assumed there would be (without checking). At least the pool was not as scary as it could have been.

In the individual rooms, the carpets are stained, the walls need painting, and the pipes are squeaky. When we arrived, we noticed right away that the tub and floor in the bathroom needed to be cleaned. The front desk said they would send a housekeeper when I called. I finally had to go to the desk in person to ask. Finally, a girl with no uniform or nametag showed up with a rag and spray bottle & gave the bathroom a very quick and completely ineffective wipedown. A similar thing happened when our trash was not taken out for 2 days in a row--and they forgot to take it out the next day as well!

Furthermore, the front desk staff could not seem to get our reservation or payment information correct. It seemed like we needed to supervise them in person to get any details correct. There are many other hotels in the area; stay at one of them instead.

In Albuquerque for the worst kind of family business - FIL passed. Had to check in at 4 in the morning and the desk clerk was friendly. He explained he had to charge me for the night but gave me a free upgrade to a king bed room with refrigerator. Breakfast was selection of prepackaged muffin, bagel, or a bearclaw - all fat laden and tasteless. They also had dry cereal and oatmeal. At least the coffee was real. Stay at this hotel but walk to the Denny's next door for breakfast.
