Not worth a trek but if you are nearby and want some coffee and a scone check it out. Main breakfast dishes were not bad but were a bit muted in flavor.

“Funky, Comfortable Boho Cafe with Fab Coffee & Eats!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Java Joe's is a great breakfast and lunch joint located right outside the Albuquerque downtown area. The coffee is fresh roasted (and bottomless) and the food is made from scratch. They also have a nice tea selection. It has New Mexican and classic cafe-style cuisine, pastries, bagels, etc., served up in a very funky, uniquely boho atmosphere, with a friendly staff. There are daily specials. Live acoustic music can sometimes be heard like every Sunday when one of the legends of New Mexico music Frank McCulloch and Su Amigos perform acoustic regional gems). Often the music is spontaneous. All that and vegetarian-friendly too! Hard to beat for a fab breakfast, lunch or really good cup o' joe!

“Ok food burned coffee”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

This cafe is a coffee roasting facility unfortunately all the many different beans imported from many countries are burned to death. There is only one kind of roast here very dark these beans are roasted for way too long yielding a cup of coffee that is bitter and acidic.
The bulk coffee prices are about 30% higher than the competition I don't understand why...
I feel that I can talk about the poor condition of the coffee as I worked in a real gourmet coffee roasting facility in Boston.
The food is ok presented ok. It is a place for locals mainly cause there is not another establishment nearby. They do support the community arts with an ever changing display of our locals.

“If you like the Quirky in Albuquirky then you'll like Java Joes!”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

It's homey, it's a bohemian meeting place with colorful walls, changing art exhibits, kid friendly and one of a kind. It's not part of an empire, just an eatery as unique and down to earth as its youthful owners. The portions are huge, the cups of coffee are bottomless and it is a great place to people watch if funky is your your cup of tea- incidentally they serve lot's of teas too. The blueberry pancakes could feed a small Pacific atoll and whether you go for breakfast, brunch or lunch- your stomach will be pleasantly full and your pocketbook won't be emptied. It's easy to miss because Park Ave is just several blocks long but you are in walking distance of downtown to be sure. Weekend mornings there is live music and it is a pleasant place to lose yourself in a book with a cup of good coffee and freshly made pastry.
