Staybridge Suites Albuquerque North
Ranked #51 of 143 Hotels in Albuquerque
Reviewed November 21, 2013

Our home in IL burned down on September 1st. We were in Albuquerque, NM looking for a new home. Our hotel - Staybridge Suites North - was our base of operations, which meant we absolutely positively needed excellent Internet service to coordinate a 30-property house search over a period of 4.5 days. Additionally, we needed Internet service in order to FaceTime with our Navy son in South Carolina and our four children back home in IL, plus other business activities we were working on.
This hotel had NO INTERNET SERVICE for the full duration of our stay. We were not told of this problem when we checked in, nor were we given the option to go to another hotel, rather than stay at a hotel without this essential business service.
Instead, to gain access to the Internet, we had to set up our iPhone as a WiFi hotspot for our computer and used a LOT OF OUR PERSONAL DATA on our Sprint data plan over a period of five days - very expensive.
When we asked for a credit for the lack of Internet promised by Staybridge in their confirmation receipt - during and at the end of our stay - we were denied, even though WIFI is specifically mentioned as a part of our rate plan (what we are paying for) - on the Staybridge confirmation we received.
Additionally, the lighting in our room was dim, and the color of CFC bulbs was bright white rather than the normal "warm" color of most interior bulbs. Because of this, the illumination was terrible to live in, as it made our skin appear to have a purplish-blue hue.
Another issue was the air quality of our room and that of the hotel. My wife who normally has a minimal allergy level, would wake up each morning with intense allergic reactions to the air… sore throat, runny eyes and nose, scratchy throat, and a severe cough. Once outside within an hour her symptoms would disappear.
The elevator was a joke. It was dreadfully slow, and even from the 3rd floor, one could walk down the stairs quicker than it took for the elevator to show up. This was not an instance of just once or twice, but all the time (the other guests had the same opinion of the elevator).
No shuttle service to the airport? No DVD player in our room? Come on Staybridge, we expected more than this from you.
I must say, that compared to the IL Staybridge our family of six lived in for 17 days after our house fire, this Staybridge sucked. We had hoped the quality we experienced at the IL location would have been duplicated at the Albuquerque North location. But alas, if IL was a 9.5… Albuquerque North was a -1.

Room Tip: If you need Internet, don't stay here. If you want a quiet room, get a room away from the court...

We booked here and pre-paid 3 months early. At checkout our invoice showed that charge was taken from our pre-payment. But two weeks later we noticed that they had ALSO charged our credit card for the whole stay. I contacted the manager several times and he would only quote verbatim that there are No refunds on pre-pays. I tried explaining we wanted a reversal of the wrongful charge but he would not listen. What a jerk. After a week of trying to deal with him and his delaying tactics I have my Bank do a charge-back. When they saw my booking docs and receipt they had no qualms applying the charge back. A complaint lodged at the parent company IHG fell upon deaf ears.
Never again!

Hello, Griff :)

I am sorry that you see an extra charge on your credit card statement. I think that is an authorization for incidentals. I do apologize about the issue's for your 7 day non-refundable advance purchase. Hope to see you next year for the Balloon fiesta. Thanks for your professional and straight to the point comment.

Kind regards

This is a beautiful place with full suites, - excellent for extended stays with full kitchen, friendly staff and a wonderful breakfast buffet. It's 6 miles north (on interstate 25) off of interstate 40. Clean, tasteful, spacious, and quite - an excellent value.

Super clean, great customer service, evening reception and hot breakfast. Highly recommend. Pool area was also exceptional, lots of towels, very nice Jacuzzi. Stayed in one room, double queen room. Kitchen was well stocked, coffee pot, plenty of room to make dinner or lunch.

We drove an extra 2 hours to stay at this hotel based on the TA reviews and our previous positive experience with Staybridge during our 2 week trip. It is surrounded by industrial business yards so the views from the 3rd floor aren't great and the grounds are very minimal with sparse landscaping. We were concerned there had been vehicle break-ins in the parking lot based on all the warning signs posted. Also, this was the first hotel that forced you to enter only from the front lobby. You could use the other ground floor doors as exits but could not re-enter except through the front. That made for a long haul with luggage if you parked anywhere but in the front area. The elevator also moved very slowly even though there were only 3 floors and made some unusual noises, so I used the stairs during our stay. This was the first mid-week stay where we could experience the free evening meal and it was a pleasant surprise. A very healthy and fresh salad bar type arrangement plus a New Mexico style chili and mashed potatoes, which tasted like they were made from a box. The dessert was fresh strawberry and banana slices with a pudding-type topping and cookies. It was so nice to be able to stay in the comfort of our suite for dinner and not have to get in the car again and drive somewhere. The prepared oatmeal the next morning was not as good, unfortunately, and had the consistency of mush, unlike the prepared oatmeal at other Staybridge hotels. We really appreciate the nuts offered as one of the oatmeal toppings, unlike other hotel chains that only offer raisins and brown sugar. There didn't appear to be any whole wheat or whole grain bread offered. The fat free milk cartons are a welcome addition as is the wide selection of tea bags. The 1 bedroom suite was as comfortable, clean, well-stocked and well-lit as the other Staybridge hotels and the beds are excellent. If we knew what brand of mattress they were buying, we would get one for our own home. We had a minor maintenance issue in the bathroom which we passed on to management the next morning and the response was very positive. An excellent value for what we paid, and we will continue to look for Staybridge Suites for our next road trip.

Three month stay. Excellent breakfast. 3 free dinners. 24/7 hot tub and heated pool. Friendly staff. Walking distance to Balloon Fiesta Park. Convenient to I-25: easy on/off. Safe and attractive area in which to walk or jog to the east and northeast. Room was on 3rd floor at end of hallway. Very quiet. Doors to rooms slam loudly but there wasn't much traffic. Good setup for business use with business area in living room/kitchen side, not in bedroom. Made it easy to segregate work from relaxing. Well outfitted kitchen with large refrigerator. Room could use another light over the dresser. Large windows that open for fresh air - this is a very nice touch. Bath towels a bit thin. There aren't enough pool towels. Bring a bath towel just in case.

On Oct. 4, 2013, the start of Balloon Fiesta, we checked into the Staybridge Suites Albuquergqe North. What a fabulous experience! Even though the hotel was booked to capacity, the staff went above and beyond to ensure we didn’t miss any activities. They extended the breakfast hours, provided shuttles to the park and ride lots, and also provided maps and suggestions for other attractions to visit between balloon events. They always had time to answer any questions. Every time we walked through the door we were greeted warmly. The rooms were very comfortable and spotless. We will definitely stay here again.
