Albuquerque NM is the Hot Air Ballooning Capitol of the World with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta yearly. History of the event and Ballooning in general. People in this part of the world take their Hot Air Ballooning seriously. Anytime the weather permits balloons will be seen flying overhead. During the Fiesta they FILL the sky! An amazing phenomenon, aptly preserved at the Museum.

The Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum is definitely for the enthusiast, filled with lots of history, replicas and actual gondolas. Albuquerque is the international capitol of hot air ballooning and host to its annual event - the Balloon Fiesta - late September through early October. Exhibits teach how balloons "fly" and allow guests to experience this through a simulator. Also, the history of ballooning including their use in World Wars I and II is well documented. If you can't be in Albuquerque during the Balloon Fiesta, spend some time at the museum; you can look out onto the park from which the balloons launch during the Fiesta and imagine it full of colorful, unique balloons.

If you are in town, it is worth a visit. It takes about 2 hrs to go thru it. If you have a air and space interest, this is the place for you. There are many exhibits about ballooning, gliding, and parachuting.

The hot air balloon school section is great! There is a simulator to learn to fly a balloon. Also, just around the corner from the museum the National Balloon LTD Company just moved to town. They build hot air balloons right here Albuquerque now. Be sure to look them up and see if you can get a tour there too.

What a great treasure to find in the ballooning capitol of the world. Modern ballooning has roots here in Albuquerque NM and this is a wonderful educational experience.

Loved this place. It captured the excitement, history, and the adventure of hot balloons. I can't wait to return to Albuquerque to see the big race and exhibition the first full weekend of October. The beauty and multiple colors of the balloons were inspiring. Expect to spend 1 1/2 hours to explore this site.
