Description: We created Flying Star because we needed fresh, tasty coffee served in a bottomless cup, comfy seats with casual, competent service that didn’t get in your face. Most of all, we wanted a place where dessert was first and the food was something you could really get your taste buds around. And, we needed it served from early in the morning to late at night on every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would be a place where we could go to be alone or have a good chance of running into friends. That was 1987 and we’re still cooking and baking 24 years later.

“Nice service and good eats”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

My wife and I went there for lunch the day we got to ABQ for our vacation. The menu was nice and complete, and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. We asked which soup of the day they would recommend (they were both very intriguing, one was some kind of butternut squash soup and the other was something like an Asian Chicken soup). The server told us they both were great, but said that we'd need a sample of each to choose - so she brought a taste of each for us to try. They were both great and we got a bowl one of them (I think the Asian one) as part of the soup and salad combo. We also split a burger. Everything we ordered was tasty, if not exciting.

Seems like a great place to go for reading/studying or just chilling with a newspaper...but we thought the food was good asl well.

“Consistently good”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We have eaten here a couple of times at different times-breakfast, lunch, desert. We have always had great food. The service is great and the atmosphere is decent. The best word to describe it-consistent.

“Over-rated and Overpriced”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

All of the Flying Star restaurants are the same- overpriced pastries and sandwiches, coffee, and many people who claim to love it. I don't want to spend as much on a coffee and a pastry as I would on a full dinner with dessert. It is where to hang out with your computer and be seen all day. It just doesn't impress me.

“Great food, nice atmosphere, little pricey!”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Everything is delicious here, it just depends on how much you want to eat a $6 grilled cheese sandwich (the cheapest thing on the menu).
Their desserts are great, I enjoy the cheesecake! YUM.
Their mango iced tea is wonderful... plenty of refills too.

“Pricey but worth it! Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We frequent several Flying Star locations often! They have great food-- that's actually real food, not all that processed crap!
They always have good service, too.
They are a little pricey to be honest though, but I understand with organic/naturally raised produce/meats.
Great place for dessert and coffee.
Free wifi is reliable and they have plug in ports for you laptop.
And when I've ever complained about a wrong order or something they were quick to fix it and without attitude!
Downtown location tends to have more 'artistic' and strange patrons, but what else can you expect on Central?
