The food at Scalo is really good. Portions are reasonable without being too much. Flavors are well developed and pleasing. The carpaccio was a treat! The bar is also quite nice. Bar tenders here know how to make a drink! A little tip: Monday evenings wine bottles are half off!!

So long as you don't come here expecting a taste of Tuscany, you'll enjoy the food and ambiance. Since traffic disruptions caused by the ART transit project on Central, this bistro has become even more of a fave for the Nob Hill neighborhood. (Expect to have to go around the block a couple of times to find a free parking space.) The bar tends to be packed and noisy; the outdoor terrace is pleasant on mild days; but the place to visit with friends is the soothing main dining room, with its white tablecloths and congenial service. Portions tend toward the generous, so we prefer to order two antipasti, rather than a pizza, pasta or entree. The carpaccio, with its paper-thin slices of raw beef, and the insalata mistacanga, with its shaved fennel and parmesan and tangy lemon dressing, proved perfect. The house Chardonnay is decent, and we welcomed the option of ordering a large glass, which spared us the bother of a refill.

We were only in town for two days and were told to go this restaurant. The hostess said since we didn't have reservations we couldn't get in, but after a few minutes they found us a table. The drinks and wine were great, the free bread and oils to dip were really amazing, and the food / dinner we had was fit for a king and queen. We would definitely go back if we are ever in ALBQ.

Suggestion: Stick with Northern Italian dishes. Both orders of your mussels in beer were served lukewarm and lack taste. Your calamari were over-breaded and immersed in too much tomato sauce. Your bar room is too dark, and sharp contrast with the daylight outside is not pleasant on the eyes.. Your bar gin and vodka tasted like they were made in the basement. Your happy hour martini - made with the basement gin was too sweet and stingy on the pour. All in all, our party of four agreed we've had worst food in Albuquerque, which isn't saying very much for Scalos which seems to be been dropping in the ratings. I doubt if we will be going back, unless something changes.
