Enjoyed a few hours browsing what was once fine department stores along the historic Route 66--now they are antique malls full of fun bargains.

In Albuquerque, the downtown is nice, but it is more business functional in the daytime and pretty much empty at night. However, Nob Hill is the place to go at night to eat fine Italian, Korean, Chinese, Steak, French, Japanese, or just chill at a sports pub and have a few drinks (or chill at the flying star or satellite coffee in the day time). You can walk the few block stretch from Girard to Washington and do some shopping or just window shopping. It is a good place that you can get out and walk around route 66 day or night. The residential areas around this stretch off of Central is also nice for walking as well. The younger drinking chill (super cheap beer) spots can be found in the University Heights area off Yale and Harvard. If you plan your Nob Hill trip, you can watch a hilarious play at the Neon Dog, eat some classy food at Vicino , ,Brasserie la Provence, Scaio is a old route 66 converted gas station now is a cool restaurant, or two fools tavern and maybe catch a flick at the old historical cinema. From Nob Hill, you can walk over to the University and walk around there for a bit.

The first friday of each month Albuquerque has it's Art Crawl. We went to the downtown area and Nob Hill for several openings. While it is not Santa Fe, it still is fun. Nob hill is crazy busy on the weekend. On the 4000-4800 blocks of Central at the top end of Nob Hill there are many antique malls with wonderful STUFF.

Due to the close proximity to the University, this is a heavily trafficked spot by a young crowd. The shops are targeted to this market. But there is much to see, lots of great food. Kelly's (which looked as if it is a renovated/restored 1930's auto garage) had great food reasonably priced for anyone! The folks at the camera store were amazingly helpful. It is a bit stretched out, but don't forget some of the by-ways off of Central Blvd. There is some public parking and they DO check to see if you've paid. Fun to experience once, but not enough interest that we would return.
