Frontier is an iconic University area eatery. The food is decent and value priced. The staff moves customers quickly through the order lines and the cooks prepare orders with a fair amount of speed so don't be put off by a long order line. The one down side about visiting Frontier is that I wish they would remodel their restrooms.

This restaurant is a real institution in Albuquerque. Across the street from the university of New Mexico, its location guaranteed that this establishment would continue to grow as long as the food was good and the Frontier restaurant did grow because the food is very good with very reasonable prices. Their Huevos Rancheros and the enchiladas are among the best in the city.
People watching is great here too. Many people, like my family, consider this place as one of the best for Albuquerque and it continually receives the number one spot for best tortillas (home made right in front of the customers) and the best cinnamon rolls. The orange juice is great too because it is home made. All visitors to Albuquerque should come here, stand in the line, and quickly move up to the counter to make their order because the food will come up fast and it will be great.

The Frontier Restaurant has been a popular eatery here in Albuquerque since opening its doors in the early 70's. It is very popular with the college ghetto crowd and transients because of its location across from the UNM campus. While hailed for it's Frontier cinnamon rolls and green chili, there is little else on the menu that is noteworthy. Very few items on the menu are fresh. Breakfast menu is overpriced, burgers and lunch menu is mediocre at best, and this is not a place to enjoy a nice quiet dinner. The parade of students, local riff raff, panhandlers, and loyal patrons attracted to it's orange vinyl booths, western paintings, makes for a memorably visit to the Albuquerque scene. It is however in need to a major facelift and why the owners seem to be oblivious to this is beyond me. The place makes a decent profit and certainly provides a minimum wage job to many students, but it does not look like they have invested a dime to update the place from when I attended UNM in the 70's. Their location on east central is much better venue.
It is unlikely that the owners will change much of anything as long as people keep coming in the door and are willing to settle for their cheap coffee and memories of better days.

Frontier is an Albuquerque fixture. (Closest thing we have to a Pennsylvania diner.) This is where we go on the way home from the airport when the kids fly in. Perfect for a quick chili fix. Always dependable and fast. Best people watching spot in town.

I am a native of Albuquerque and Have been a patron of this restaurant since forever. I never get tired of the blazing good food and the funky yet homey atmosphere. It has expanded over the years as adjacent buildings became vacant and the owners bought them up. My favorite room is the main dining room where you place your order. I always try to get a booth by the window for some excellent people watching. The art on the walls is very John Wayne, Lobo related, and western scenery. Some of it is quite good. The food is always fresh and hot and they are very efficient in their service. Breakfast at the Frontier is an experience. Fresh squeezed OJ is superb. The cinnamon rolls are amazing. The flour tortillas are made fresh right in front of you. Try the Huevos Rancheros!
