A group of four of us had a lovely meal with margaritas at La Placita in Old Town. The chile is not too hot, but flavorful. The flat stacked cheese enchiladas (a la carte with red and green chile) were just right, and the margaritas were delicious. The waiter was friendly (but not too friendly), professional, and attentive. The sopapillas were some of the best I've had anywhere, fresh and soft, not soggy, and not too stiff and dry. The atmosphere in the old rooms in this historic building was subdued and elegant, but not stuffy. The tables were set with red tablecloths and cloth napkins. We ate in the covered patio with its high ceiling with the old tree projecting through the roof. On a hot evening, the temperature was pleasant inside. Often written off as a "tourist destination" La Placita on a quiet Tuesday evening proved to be a pleasant, relaxing experience.

Interesting restaurant with a tree growing through the roof in one of the dining rooms; lovely old chairs and staircase. I am giving it a 4 out of 5 because of the sopapillas, the best we've ever had. Crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. Forget the diet, order a bunch of them! The main course was good but not great. I had chiles rellenos, and I've had better elsewhere. My husband had steak and had to send it back to be cooked a bit more. The Mexican rice was quite good as were the beans. Service was good and the staff was friendly.

Even if the food wasn't great, and it is, this is a place to visit. One of the oldest buildings in Albuquerque, it has tree in the middle of the dining room. This was one of four Mexican restaurants we tried while in Albuquerque and it was the best.

From the tortillas and salsa, through the chicken tacos, to the sopapillas, the food was absolutely delicious. it was not overly spicy, but was full of flavor. It is also a well appointed Mexican restaurant with a very friendly staff.

Authentic New Mexican food in an authentic New Mexican place. Great old setting. We ate in the old enclosed courtyard with the tree growing through the roof. Carne Adovada was great. Worth a visit.
