“The Train to/from Santa Fe”

New Mexico Rail Runner

Forget the rental car, take the Rail Runner to and from ABQ to Santa Fe. On foot in Santa Fe slows you down after a wonderful look at the timeless landscape away from the interstate.

Leave your car behind and hop on the Rail Runner from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. The seats were comfortable, the views were nice, ticket agents were personable, and best of all, we didn't have to worry about driving or parking when we got to Santa Fe. The train stop was a short walk to the center of Santa Fe.

We took the Railrunner from Abq. to Santa Fe for a day trip and it was efficient, priced nicely and clean. We had free shuttle buses awaiting us at the depot in Santa Fe for free that took us to the plaza. Courteous people working the train and shuttle.

The title says it all, really. This is a very comfortable, interesting, and fun way to get between 'Burque and the City Different (Santa Fe). The cars are ultra-modern, feature wi-fi on the go, and have scenic views of the gorgeous countryside and the various Native American pueblos along the route (no pictures, please, when passing through those reservations).

You can buy your tickets online or on board, and a ticket also gets you free bus service in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The bus schedules in both cities are timed to the arrivals and departures of the RailRunner, and there's a free shuttle from downtown Albuquerque to the international airport.

I used Park & Ride to get from Las Vegas (NM) to Santa Fe, picked up the RailRunner (unfortunately with a 1-hour layover in the cold), and took the shuttle to the airport, saving myself 120 miles of driving and enjoying the work and entertainment time.

Great for families, too, especially if introducing small children to train travel. Ride it!

We use the Rail Runner to access the attractions of santa Fe when visiting our family in Albuquerque. The car park at Los Ranchos can be very full with commuter cars but there is usually space on the road if necessary. A relaxing and good value way to make the journey. Quite a hike into central Santa Fe from the depot and not very well signposted, but I believe there is a free shuttle bus every 15 minutes or so.
