I went here for lunch with 2 coworkers and it was to die for! The arepas are huge and stuffed with all kinds of good things. I would definitely reccommend this place to all!

Cuban inspired food was fresh, tasty, and very nicely presented. Proprietor very involved with customers and service. Location has a "hole in the wall" appearance, but do not be dissuaded. This was a great experience and great flavorful food. We shared plantains and cheese, cubano sandwich, and one of the spicy shredded beef "wraps" in griddled corn cake. Topped off with an owner suggested iced guava orange drink that was excellent. Moving to a new location soon and with this service and food I expect The Guava Tree to keep growing!!

I have to admit I passed by the Guava Tree gazillion times--I only wish I had discovered this place years ago. What a find! The food is freshly prepared, with generous portions at a very
reasonable price and the ambiance is always so friendly. There are gluten free choices- Arepas. These large flat cornmeal pancakes are cut in half filled to the brim with caramelized onions, cheese, plantains, shredded beef or beans and other choicees. There's the Costa Rican Tamale which can be made with Pork or vegetables wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf, served with a side of black beans. There is the delicious guava pinto which is a delightful mixture of rice and beans, hogao ( tomatoes, annatto, onions) with sweet plantains cooked to perfection with an succulent salad. On the counter is a an iced dispenser filled with iced water cucumbers and citrus slices which is an all you drink proposition for free. There's steaming cups of coffee con leche, fruit shakes of all descriptions and scrumptious tres leches mini cakes and flans... An for you Cuban sandwich fans there is quite a selection!
I have yet to eat breakfast there, but I will. The owner makes you feel like an honored guest.
Stay tuned, the Guava Tree will be moving from it's present Yale SE location to Richmond and Central in the probably by April if all goes according to plan... there will be dinner eventually served in its new home to be-- can't wait!

Food is excellent - well proportioned, freshly made home-style cooking with genuine staff. Makes a very welcome (and healthy) change to your regular lunch options in the US. Pleasantly surprised and nicely satisfied.
