“Great Caribbean Food in a Funky Setting”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Pros: Freshly prepared food and authentic (confirmed by the Venezualen member of our family)
Cons: Limited seating; drafty in the winter

Notable: Cubano sandwich, variety of arepas, and tres leches dessert (over the top!)

Service: personal and responsive; good extra mile

Ambience: rough-edged charm

Parking: limited but workable except perhaps at peak times

Value: very good

“Great Gluten-free Arepac's”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

On our way back to the Albuquerque airport we stopped at the Guava Tree Cafe for lunch. I had reviewed several websites for gluten-free restaurants before our trip, looking for ethnic food. This cafe is small, but don't let that stop you. The ladies were friendly, the food made while you waited. The Arepac had shredded beef, black beans, fried plantain & a little cheese in a corn flat bread. It was delicious! The cafe is just minutes from the airport, so enjoy great central american cuisine with moderate prices instead of airport food! They also have a punch card for frequent fliers! Buy 10 sandwiches & get one free.

“Best sandwich in Albuquerque”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

Friends who love this place insisted I had to join them there for lunch. The place is your classic "hole in the wall," but homey and inviting. The staff is so warm and friendly and efficient, you begin to hope for something special, and then you dig in and realize that they deliver on the promise. Luscious pressed sandwiches on great bread, crispy on the outside and oozing (but not greasy or messy) ingredients within. I had one of the turkey combos, with roasted peppers, provolone and chimichurri, and it was spectacular. My friends had areas, and they were sighing with delight. I had a very nice side salad and tried one of their fried plantains, served with crumbled quest fresco, a treat. And the cafe con leche was velvety and packed a punch. I want to go back right now!

“Delicious Fresh Cuban food in a coffeehouse ambiance”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

I love the vegetarian arepas-- soft corn cake surrounding sautéed peppers, plantains, fresh cheese. Warm soul food. Cafe con leche was sweet and creamy. My 19 year old son loved the Carribe turkey sandwich and said it was very filling. The staff are so warm and friendly. We'll be back!

“Quick and easy lunch.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We had the Cuban pork sandwich and Arepa Pabellon. Both, delicious and filling. Still, we couldn't pass up trying the guava pastry.

Inexpensive, filling, and delicious. Small little eaterie in a quaint and colorful building on Yale, near Smith's Grocery.
