The interior of this place was a little run down but the room was comfortable enough. This was not as nice as other Microtels where I have stayed but was acceptable for a night.

everything was pretty good, breakfast (waffles) was pretty good, range of stuff coffee bagels toast muffins cereals oats waffles... they carpets in the hallways where a lot worn but i did not stay in the hallways so it did not bother me... rooms where pretty good, but there could have been more light in the room... water pressure was not the greatest but it worked,,, but i do not have long hair so it worked for me... no pool ( but not that big of deal) they did have an elevator ( but i think it needs to be looked at, made a loud banging noise on the 3rd floor.) our room did not have an iron or iron board. other then that it was a good one night stay i would come back to this one again (2 gas stations near by, auto parts store, mcdonalds, truck wash, adult video store nearby from what i saw... it sits high up so you can see the city all lighted up, so it was good

I stayed here for an overnight stopover while traveling on I-40. I had stayed in an outstanding Microtel in Conway, AR the previous night which was great. This location compared unfavorably to the previous one. The location is at the far west fringe of Albuquerque and there is nothing nearby except a large truckstop, some gas stations and a McDonalds. When I checked in, the clerk asked me twice how I made my reservations (I used the 800 number) even though she said she had my reservation. She then, prior to giving me my room key, made a copy of my ID (when asked, she said they always do that for security reasons...very strange). There was a sign on the wall in the office explaining the charges for the shuttle service which offers trips to various locations (hmmm...what kind of occupants there would need a shuttle?). I heard the clerk tell a guest calling in (and also noted on a manager response to a review on here) that all rooms have new pillowtop mattresses. I went up to my room and the mattress was an old hard motel 6 quality mattress (I slept fine on it) and noticed some marginally unsavory looking characters around. My room on the second floor (hallway had very worn carpet) most definitely had NOT been renovated (it was ok but a bit worn tho) so the renovations here have apparently been going on for months. Overall, the place was a half step above Motel 6 (and priced accordingly) not nearly the value and quality I had the previous night at another Microtel.

The motel is undergoing renovations and it's a mess. Filth is everywhere and if it wasn't so late at night I would take my wife and leave. We had to change rooms because the first room had a tub that was dirty and there wasn't enough water pressure for my wife to wash her hair. This would not be a bargain at one third of their lowest rate. The staff seemed friendly enough but provided minimal help in resolving the situation.

In July 2007 we stayed one night at this Microtel. It worked as a one night stay. This was my second go around with this chain. My husband's first. The front desk staff was friendly, the room clean, breakfast as expected but not exceptional. The beds were hard and - my husband said he could feel the springs - I agreed. I cannot say it was something I would recommend except for inexpensive housing as one passes through the state. New Mexico in general has more expensive motels and this one was about $55. I don't know if I would go out of my way to stay again but for the price, I got what I expected.

The hotel is currently being renovating. Our room currently have the Dream Well Package. The mattresses in the rooms are pillow-top and made from Sealy. We serve complimentary deluxe continental breakfast with hot waffles. We would like for you to give us a try again.

Anyone familiar with Microtel knows what you're going to get at every location--a small but clean room, a basic breakfast, free long distance calls, and not much else. For $54 in Albuquerque (week night), that's about all you should expect, and this place delivers.

If you're thinking about spending a few days in Albuquerque immersing yourself in the local culture or on an adventure with someone you love, stop reading now and find someplace else. This motel isn't for you. ABQ is a really cool city with tons of things to do, and if you want to enjoy yourself, don't settle for a cheap motel at the edge of town. I've been to ABQ a few times already, and love it, but this time I just wanted someplace cheap and simple to stay the night before a flight.

That's what Microtel does well, at least most of the time. They're inexpensive and predictable. You'll be safe, and you'll sleep ok. And this one meets those goals for the most part. I would have preferred a desk clerk that spoke English more clearly (so she could have connected my wife to my room, instead of telling her no one under my name was checked in). I would have preferred an elevator that worked. But I was ok with the place being just ok.

There are probably better budget motels in ABQ. This one is at the extreme western edge of town, pretty far from anything interesting (its only neighbors are a truck stop and an adult book store), but it's convenient to I-40, and probably would be a great stop if you were planning on heading out of town the next day.

My advice is to splurge a little when you're in a great city like this and get someplace with more character, a better setting, and competent help. Save the Microtels for another trip. Boring and ugly places have them, too, and they're exactly the same as this one.

JeremyD-FDS, Front Desk Supervisor at Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Albuquerque West, responded to this reviewResponded February 14, 2012

We really appreciate your fair and candid feedback. I wish I could have been on-staff personally, back when this review was first posted. However, I can say that experiences like this one are exactly the reason we have brought fresh customer service talent into our midst.

We still offer the same clean rooms, although spacious suites ARE available, if you require extra legroom (our single-queen standard rooms are, indeed, on the small side). Our breakfast is now a deluxe continnental (with milk, juice, a variety of pastries, and hot waffles!) Additionally, we now feature free WiFi access in every room!

It's true that other hotels in Albuquerque offer deeper immersion into our city's cultural roots. Though, we have made it our priority to stand out from other budget properties with the warm, personal atmosphere our staff can personally provide.

I am sorry you faced difficulty in this respect, during your stay. Our property owner is of Chinese origin, and she recognized a communication gap existed between our management and our guests, which is specifically why I was (recently) invited to assist with guest relations.

You are absolutely right about our geographic positioning. We are on the far West end of town, and we are a prime location for guests that are "just passing through". If you wish to stop short of the city heading East, or cut out the morning traffic heading West... this is THE place for a comfortable night of rest. To that end, I must specify that we are also just North of Historic Route 66, which follows Central Ave through the equally historic Old Town ABQ. Travelers who wish to follow the old highway will find PLENTY of cultural stops along the way. However, such stops are "down the road" and NOT "next door", so it's best to plan a day trip with a check-in on your way out, or a check-out on your way in.

At any rate, we're glad we could satisfy your needs and deliver exactly what you came for. We hope to see you again, and this time we're SURE to provide the kind of customer service that will see you heading out smiling.
