While traveling through Old Town there is a little museum among the shops dedicated to rattlesnakes. The kids love the snakes and it is educational. Who knew how many types of rattlers there are. A little on the expensive side, but the kids loved it. Though it says museum the snakes are live and in tanks.

This is a great place to go if you're in Old Town, especially if you have kids. When I went the museum curator was extremely friendly, and the ticket you get doubles as a "certificate" that I had a good laugh about. It also comes with a coupon for the gift shop, which is not so bad. The museum is small, but very quaint. I would guess there are probably 40 snakes or so, and some other lizards. There are also other informative things that are vaguely related to snakes. There are lots of discounts for children, students, seniors, etc. that make a potential family visit quite affordable. You can tell the people who run this museum really do like snakes and like seeing people smile. If you are at Old Town, especially with children, swing by the rattlesnake museum and check it out.

The reason why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is a small museum, and you could probably conceivably spend 30 minutes max here, maybe more if you sit to watch the film for awhile. However, if you are just exploring and don't want to spend a lot of time, that may be perfect for you. You will not feel guilty about spending a short amount of time here because it is so affordable.

Great location in the heart of the popular (and touristy) Old Town. A fun place that gives people an appreciation for rattlesnakes, and for reptiles in general. The tightly packed museum has a combination of snake memorabilia and live rattlesnakes. As for the memorabilia, you will never believe there are so many snake oriented products - everything from beer bottles to baseballs. The live snakes include some unusual morphs that animal fanatics will enjoy, such as a western diamondback with long racing stripes instead of a diamond pattern and side by side displays of white and black diamondbacks. A small but fun museum that is worthwhile for any visitor to Albuquerque.

I only have two complaints. One is that it is so tightly packed that it is not wheelchair accessible. Two is that the snakes are in traditional small glass cases and I would like to see them in larger accomodations. Still, it is worth a visit and the gift shop in the front has lots of fun items including their logo t-shirts in a wide variety of colors in both short and long sleeve. (I am a fan of long sleeve t-shirts so I had to pick one up).

Hey, snakes aren't my cup of tea, but my 16 year old son lit up when I said, "you want to do it?" He indulged me with my discourse of the Nave and Stations of the Cross in the historic Old Town Church, so why not. Rattlesnake Bob was an excellent host and even stepped outside to take our picture. The Natural Science Museum, it isn't, but well worth my 10 bucks!
