After 6 hours on the road, and the last hour through a rainstorm, what a welcome we received by the good people at Nanny's. The pulled pork BBQ and the sauce was very tasty, we enjoyed the buffet with good basic choices, the brisket was also very tasty and tender. The service excellent and the price unbeatable. But go early, they close at 9 ( we went on a Sat night ).

(Sat., 5/4) Almost a year ago we tried Nanny's for the 1st time. We told the owners that our experience was so great, that we would return. (Love the home cooking & those NA beverages served in Mason jars, with a full pitcher refill.) We booked our motel stay, just to land near Nanny's! This 2nd time we arrived at dinnertime & Nanny's parking lot was completely full. They were so busy, that we opted for a weighed by-the-pound, take-out from the buffet. My husband chose&presented their fried chicken, chicken&dumplings, whipped potato&gravy. The food was fresh, hot & well packed. We were stuffed & the bill was just under $16. I must say that we regretted not paying a little more in time & money-- to be seated & fussed-over, but it was also worth not having to brave the crowds after a tiring 10 hr car trip!

Nanny's serves classic southern food in a buffet that will remind you of church suppers and picnics but they prepare these favorites very well. There are a lot of places like this in eastern North Carolina and Virginia serving vinegar- based pork barbecue, fried chicken, hush puppies, potato salad, banana pudding-- but Nanny's versions of these old standards are well executed. They also had savory chicken and dumplings (chicken pastry), roast beef in a flavorful gravy, ham and vegetables suc as greens, green beans, cooked cabbage. The restaurant is simply decorated and very clean. A good find and filled with regulars.

This is a value stop, high quality good food and it is buffet style. Everything tasted as it was home cooked, like your at your Grandmothers.
Nanny's is worth going out of your way and going the extra mile...a recommended stop.
It was great from the tea to cobbler...I will be going back

Only draw back - only open for lunch during the week.

For many years this place has been consistent and we always return to their facility if they are open. I know the hours and days can get better.
