“Great to stop by on a trip to South Padre Island.”

South Padre Island is a great place to visit. On the way there and on the way back, look at the terrain and see where a great battle was fought. There is only a plaque to mark the battlefield. I would not recommend trying to drive or walk through the battlefield, but you can park by the side of the road and see the battlefield. I've shown that view of the battle field to our sons, who seemed impressed by it mainly by their comments that they were glad they didn't have to be part of that battle in that hot, desolate area.

There really is nothing here but a plaque, but if you are a history nut, you'll be glad you went. It's hard to imagine that the last battle of the Civil War took place in this field in the middle of nowhere and that it happened about a month after Generla Lee surrendered. The Civil War was over. It's just very interesting to see and imagine.
