Description: The number one question asked is “What does Scuttlebutt’s mean?” Well, we answer, The original context came from two nautical terms; the “butt” (picture a wooden keg) was a wooden cask that stored the fresh water when sailors were at sea. The “scuttle” was the area of the ship where the “butt” was stored. When it was break time, the sailors would gather at the “Scuttle Butt” and drink. This also became a social time, as they could all meet and talk. Now over the years the words joined together and became “scuttlebutt”. This word was used when people would gather together, typically at the office water fountain, and ask one another, “Hey, what’s the scuttlebutt with Jim in accounting?” Here is the official definition according to Meriam Webster; 1a : a cask on shipboard to contain freshwater for a day's use 2b: a drinking fountain on a ship or at a naval or marine installation 2: rumor, gossip. Now that you know what Scuttlebutt’s means, this is what we are about! Scuttlebutt’s is a full service restaurant and bar that truly is a place where everyone, from babies to baby-boomers, can get together and have a great time! Our menu is as equally diverse, with grilled peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches, hand-cut rib eye steaks, oysters on the half shell and one of the best sushi bars around. Our premium craft beer wall and wine selection is top rated, and make sure to try our house made sangria or our signature Scuttlebutt’s punch. We are a scratch kitchen and our day starts in the wee-early mornings when the hard-working prep team arrives to bust out our house recipes. Another appeal to Scuttlebutt’s is that we offer Happy Hour every day (Yes, week-ends too!) from 3pm-7pm and we have live music every night (Yes, really, every night – unless the Dallas Cowboys are playing). We can easily accommodate larger groups as well as be the perfect spot for date night, which has turned into a marriage proposal on more than one occasion. Call ahead seating is available and we can help plan a perfect office party or celebration with custom menu options. Come visit us and become part of our Scuttle Family!

Contrary to what I’ve read here, pricing is very reasonable, and service was great. The food is excellent based on our dishes. I had blackened ahi tuna which was cooked a perfect medium rare so it doesn’t dry out. The house salad with blue cheese was excellent, as was the grilled asparagus. My wife had a shrimp po boy, which was huge. She said it was one of the best she’d eaten. The Cole slaw was good, but needed a dash of vinegar. They have a nice selection of beers. Don’t trust Google Maps to get you here.

Overall the meal was pretty good . There was a couple of mix ups on our order & our cocktails were nothing special at all. We had 2 frozen drinks that were served with paper straws. Not going to get into an environmental discussion, but you need something to stir a frozen drink more substantial than a paper straw. The happy hour $4 margarita was only about 8oz & not worth it. The food was better than average. I had the grilled shrimp & scallops and it was done well. It was not an especially large portion & I think I had 4 scallops total. Grilled chicken was ordered & it was good as well as the shrimp tacos. ( at first they brought fish tacos so daughter had to wait on fix) . So the 3 of us ate, with 3 cocktails & it was $100 with tip. I don’t think we got the best value for what was served.

We had a family gathering at Scuttlebutt's and there was something on the menu for all the picky eaters. The food was great as was the service. We will definitely be back next time we are in Corpus Christi.

A late afternoon dinner effort to find a suitable outside place that allowed dogs with owners, led us to this establishment. It's situated in a U-shaped shopping center and looks unassuming outside, though it does have two large wooden decks outside with tables and huge umbrellas to shade diners electing to eat there. We chose a table near the building and lifted the umbrella for shade. Service was prompt and very friendly, and the menu was full of a variety of seafood and other items prepared in several ways permitting a wide choice. We shared a frozen margarita with a 7 oz Coronita upside down - Oh wow very refreshing and tasty!. Dinner was a large burger on a sour dough bun and a delicious flounder with butter caper sauce, cheesy creamed spinach and large hush puppies. All were priced well and tasted delicious. Coupled with the attentive and friendly waitress made the dining experience very pleasant. Inside is vibrant atmosphere with band music and sport TV screens for those relishing that scene. Would recommend
