“What a great deal!”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

This place is right of IH 37 and close to everything. We made it to the beach and USS Lexington in a matter of minutes.
I love motels like this that are no frills and non pretentious. I would gladly have a old TV in my room in exchange for free Wi-Fi. The breakfast is pretty cool or maybe I'm just a sucker for a waffle maker. Having a microwave and micro-fridge in the room is really helpful especially when you are planning a picnic for the beach. The staff was all very nice and helpful. The room itself was overall pretty clean. The carpet felt a little filmy but I'm sure it is due to humidity levels. It took us a while to realize that you need to crank the AC for it to cool properly, again due to humidity levels. But once the AC was cranked it was nice and cold.
The motel is in an urban area just about a mile away from the city center. If you do not or have not ever lived in an urban area this might feel a little strange or as some would say sketchy. But if you grew up in an urban area this motel will not feel unsafe by any stretch of the imagination. It is located in an average urban setting.

We liked the price for this motel, and the room was very large, with a king-size bed, microwave and fridge, and couch. The location was about 10 minutes from the aquarium/USS Lexington/beach and 30 minutes from the Padre Island National Seashore, but was located in an industrial area. It felt a little unsafe at night except the place seemed to be filled with guests, which made us feel better. The front desk workers were always very nice, making check-in and check-out very easy. The free breakfast was decent (waffles, bagels, 2 types of cereal)and served until 9:30, perfect for us since we wanted to sleep in a bit. It did get a bit crowded, though. Thin walls so we could hear guests one night, and the air conditioner made a sound that sounded like someone turning the door handle, but we got used to it.

As mentioned in other reviewers the location is a little dicey, but I was not bothered by anyone. Checkin was quick, the rate matched my reservation and the clerk was friendly. The room was pretty decent for $60, there was a love seat, coffee table, microwave and small refrigerator in the room. The AC kept it pretty cool in the room and was not noisy. The only problem I had was my next door neighbor who apparently was quite the basketball fan and did not appreciate how his team was doing on TV fortunately the game was over at 10PM so it was not really a big issue.

I didn't get a chance to try the breakfast but it looked like the usual cereal waffle bagel fare.

I would stay here again.

Stayed a Saturday night. Front desk was very friendly. Breakfast area is small with basics (muffins, bagels, toast, 2 cereals, coffee, juices, diy waffles and some fruit). Only 3 tables, but was not busy. Pool is tiny and what looks like a hot tub is only a wading pool. Room had 2 comfortable queen beds with micro, fridge, older tv with not the best reception, dresser, coffee maker, iron and board and a nightstand with a desk and 2 chairs. Ac worked great. Everything was clean and worked properly. Bathroom was nicer than most motels in that there was nice tile and it was much roomier. Power went off once around 7 am but came back on within seconds. Area is mostly buildings and a convenience store directly behind. Right off highway. Within 10-15 minutes to everything! Overall, clean, comfortable and affordable.

We really liked the room and the motel, but the surrounding area was dicey and noisy. My wife did not feel very safe walking the dog in most places. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room itself was nice and clean, with comfortable beds, but due to the environs we would not want to stay there again.

Very pleasant stay! Front desk staff very helpful. This was during spring break and we had nope problems whatsoever. Close to downtown and several attractions. The continental breakfast was very good with a nice blend of selections.

First - I enjoyed my stay, slept well, and don't regret staying here after reading many reviews here.

As to staying there again - big maybe due to location. I never felt unsafe, however there are a lot of homeless folks in the area and it's pretty seedy. Just an old and unkept area with no restaurants or shopping nearby. This applies to most of the area north of downtown Corpus Christi for that matter. However, I was able to drive to some good restaurants in about ten minutes so not a huge deal.

As to the hotel itself, I was pleased with the size and quality of the room. It was more like one of the new BW-Plus hotels but with outside entries. Great bed, good linens, good towells, nice flat-screen with large selection of channels, above average coffee, great fridge, good micro, very nice staff. A few nicks, but overall very comfortable. I didn't try breakfast so can't comment on that.

I drove around much of the downtown (and "uptown") areas of Corpus - the town I was born in - and found that it was more frayed around the edges than I remember it. Perhaps there are new areas that are thriving that I didn't see, and I plan on exploring for those on my next trip. I'll likely look for a hotel in such an area if I can find it.
