We got to Corpus about 2:00 PM and since we were coming in right by the hotel, we stopped to see if perhaps our rooms (had reserved two) might be ready so we could leave our luggage as we had not had lunch yet. The front desk clerk called someone on the walkie talkie and asked if our rooms were ready and the woman yelled back where we could hear, "They'll be ready at 3:00 PM like it says for check-in." While we were only checking about the rooms, as we have done many times upon arriving in a city, the availability depends totally upon when the previous guests left and the order in which the maids were able to clean the rooms. Plenty of times, hotels have had our rooms ready an hour early and allowed us to enter. But this woman apparently was either a stickler for the 3:00 PM rule, OR she didn't even bother to check to see if our two rooms were ready before yelling out that the rooms would be ready at the 3:00 PM check-in time. Either way, she was rude.
Also, if the elevator was out at that time, they should have told us so we could move to another hotel. There are several Holiday Inn Expresses in Corpus so they could have avoided the problem.
So we left and went to eat and when we got back around 4:00, the elevator was out of order. We had requested rooms on the top floor since we don't like children or adults running around in the room above us at all hours, but the clerk said they were going to have to give us a room on the third floor and one on the fourth floor. But since the elevator was out, they offered to help us carry our luggage up the stairs, but we had one person in our party who needs knee surgery and another who had just had knee surgery, so they agreed to put us in first floor rooms. The elevator had apparently gone out because they had lost electricity at some point. They got the elevator reset and working after we got in our first floor rooms, but the bad knee people didn't want to take the risk that the elevator would go out again.
The rooms were clean, but there was noise above us during the night and on the first floor, there is more activity going on early in the morning than on other floors.
The hotel offers a free breakfast and it was good.
