An "A" lunch at Hester's today. Actually it's always an "A" day so this is a play on words. For those who don't know, you get a hand-painted wooden letter as your call "number" instead of those ordinary plastic numbers. You do get a number when they get thru Z but it's also painted wood. I have discovered I don't mind eating out so much anymore because of the cost...which isn't that much at Hester's...Under $10 per entree. And I am thinking I should go ONLY to those places whose food I really, really enjoy. I just cannot eat the amount of food I used to, so I always take home leftovers. Two delicious meals for the price of one at Hester's plus great atmosphere, service and just plain comfortable places to be. They have two restaurants, one downtown and one at the Art Museum of South Texas.

Cute atmosphere. Order at the counter. Clearly they are preparing food on site. Lovely desserts and baked goods and nice selection of breakfast plates, sandwiches, etc. Connected to a gift shop, so it's an experience.

We read the reviews about Hester's Cafe, but no one metioned that parking and the restaurant's main entrance is in the rear.

You order at the front counter and are given a large wooden letter so the server can find your table. i had the free range eggs with chunked seasoned potatoes, fruit cupo and whole wheat toast. My wife had an omelette with the same sides. The seasoned potatoes were the best I have had anywhere! very enjoyable meal.

The restaurant had a buzz of voices of happy people eating and enjoying their time there. There is a very large gift shop next door with some seating for those who want a slightly quieter breakfast.

Though it is a headache to find, this corner of international flavor will make your search worth every second and penny...
The ambiance is quite rustic, the food is made from scratch with fresh produce and the owner/workers are friendly, prompt and amazing.
A variety of sandwiches and cakes make your brunch a fantastic experience...
AND, should you be in luck, you might bump into no other than Chris Perez himself...
