“Windy, wild and fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

For my wife and I, this was our second visit. Her brother in law is a "birder" and we hoped this would be a place to show off the Texas Coast and its birds, in spite of the wind. When we arrived at the beach, the ranger advised gale force winds were blowing, but we were anything but disappointed. The birds were active. Some were all but grounded along the beach, fighting the wind. Others, like the gulls and pelicans were flat-out busy fishing. We had an excellent time and found the beach almost as delightful during a windy, Spring day as our last visit in June.

“Nicest TX Beach I Have Visited”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

$10 entrance fee, $20 for overnight camping. Very clean sand, water is maybe a little clearer than most Gulf beaches. Somewhat isolated, which I like. There are restrooms and snack shack on location, as well as an open area to wash the sand off. Very well maintained beach.

“Wonderful Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

Very nice beach and very clean. Went a little later in the afternoon and saw a lot of birds and there were not a lot of people. Wind was nice but the water was a bit cool (the weather has been a bit weird in TX as of late). Be warned the sand is very very fine and gets into everything. It was great to simply walk along the beach.

One good thing is there are showers located near by to rinse the sand off of you and a little private area (enough for a single person) where you can get changed (no door).

“Lovely beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

We visited the beach on a so-so weather day. Saw a TON of wildlife, and spend some time looking through the seaweed that had washed ashore. Along with pelicans and a lot of other shore birds, we saw portuguese man o'war and some crabs.

“Quiet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Went to Malaquite beach with my two kids and husband. It was really windy and cool the day we went but it was still nice. I liked listening and watching the waves and my 3 year old loved playing in the water and sand. We liked the covered picnic area and that we were fairly close to bathrooms if needed. I didn't care for the excessive seagrass on the beach but that can't be helped. My only complaint was that we had to constantly watch where we were walking barefoot due to the trash. There was a feminine product that had washed ashore which was really disgusting but those things can't be helped. I would have loved to see this place before the days of trash being in the oceans. It is really beautiful with the sand dunes. Watch out for jellyfish! One washed up right by us. It was pretty cool to look at though. Also, the birds out there will drive you crazy!
