It's beautiful, and the people are so friendly. Very clean for as many people that were there. The sand is soooo fine.

Padre Island has been a favorite to visit off an on over the last 15 years. It is an extraordinary man-made island with wonderful hotels and restaurants. There are lots of seashell art, annual sand sculpture on the beach contest, people from all over the world. It got a bad reputation for Spring break college student destination issues. I have always visited in February,March, October. The ownership of the businesses on Padre have become International. You can arrive at McAllen airport, rent a car and have not more than an hour drive to Padre. There is a great seafood restaurant on the way in Port St. Isabel. the water is warm, beaches
clean and vistas are beautiful.

Drove down the beach to the 15 mile marker and had very little traffic all morning. Had a great time walking the beach in total solitude. After noon, more fishermen started passing by, but still a great time.

We planed a trip to North Padre Island for the MLK weekend, we were not expecting much since we come from a beautiful island (Puerto Rico), we are spoiled. Our expectations of a beach are super high.
We just wanted to have a relax weekend and have fun at the dunes that we had heard so much about it. This beach is super long (60 miles). You pay $10 fee for 7 days. When we got there we decided to see it all and then decide where to camp. There is "nothing" on the beach. You need to take all you need if you are planing to spend the night. We got to mile 60 and there was a dirt road that kept going, we decided to check it out. We found the best camping spot ever, is at the end of north padre where we could see south padre as well. Dolphins were swimming very close to the shore and making a peculiar noises, this is a bio-luminescent bay at night (beautiful), and at midnight fog came down in a weird way that we couldn't see the other side of the island. It couldn't be better. We spent a night there and the next night we decided to find a spot closer to the exit. It was a great experience, I would recommend it. If you like primitive camping and nature you are going to appreciate this park. It's not a Caribbean Island but it's worth the visit.

Getting there it seems as if you are not going anywhere, the anticipation got me. Then we made a turn and ….this beautiful sight seeing opens up! :)
