We visited the beach with our small dog who got to run free and chase seagulls. Overall it was a great visit, the beach was nearly empty and we had a nice walk on a foggy morning. It was great!

Really beautiful! The beach is really nice. We also enjoyed watching the windsurfers as well as going on the nature trail to take in the grasslands area, and taking a walk on Malaquite beach. If you walk the beach, go stop by the visitor center and grab a yellow bag for trash. The camping here looks really nice too. You can rent windsurfing stuff at the bird island area.
If you pay for entry you get free entry for 7 days, which is nice. They also have birding tours and a small concessions stuff (not too veggie friendly, but we did get bean dip + chips for a snack).

This is a nice place if you have never been to the beach. It has nice areas to park on pavement and play in the surf and it has areas that require 4WD. If you don't have a 4WD don't go past the sign telling you one is needed. You can park on the beach in many areas and play in the surf. Sand dunes are fun to play in but in the summer time watch for snakes. Many miles of the island is natural, just as it would have been 200 years ago. Just a few miles (5 or so) north of the National Seashore you can find just about any type food you can think of and numerous motels/hotels.

The island is really beautiful and has always been my favorite place to camp out or just spend time walking along the waters edge.

We went to the public beaches first. These were literally dirty - beer cans, cigarette butts, and more trash in the sand, trash cans overflowing with trash - it was really very disappointing. Then we drove 5 miles to Padre Island National Seashore. This is the place to go to if you are looking for a clean beach with full, clean facilities. The entry fee into the area is well worth it. The beach along the entire shoreline pulls up a lot of seaweeds. So that is to be expected. But all in all, this is a pretty nice beach to hang out at vs. all the public beaches in the area.
