Wide variety of options to visit in well curated exhibits divided into large geographical subdivisions. Don’t miss the flamingoes in the Caribbean section!

Why are two of your green turtles in a small tank with clear injuries or illness? The two green turtles I’m talking a out are in the main tank outside. They have large swollen masses behind their back right appendages that clearly makes it impossible for them to submerge entirely and difficult for them to get their heads above water. Made me sick to watch.

Hello,

We appreciate that our guests have as much care for our animals as we do, which is just one reason why we're committed to giving them the best possible overall care, including quality diets, habitats, medical care and more. The sea turtles in Tortuga Cay are all rescued from the wild, and because of injuries or repeated strandings, they cannot be released back into their natural habitat. One such injury, which you may have seen in the green sea turtles "Crush" and "Squirt," is a buoyancy disorder, which causes them to float at the top of the water. This is caused primarily from a traumatic incident like being struck by a boat, and in most cases, including that of our sea turtles, it is a permanent disorder.

The slight swelling you observed on the back end of two of the green sea turtles is an unavoidable side effect of their buoyancy issues but does not cause them any pain or discomfort.

The good news is that these sea turtles help inspire our guests to care for their counterparts in the wild, and your admission even supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sea turtles through our Wildlife Rescue Center!

We want to assure you we care deeply for the wellness of all our animals, including our sea turtles, and keep a close eye on them at all times to ensure they're healthy and living their best lives possible.

If you have any questions about our animal care, please feel free to ask an employee on your visit or text our manager at 361-524-4066.

In town for couple of days. Little cool and drizzly outside and decided to take in the aquarium. Little overpriced but most of the money goes to aid and research for all animals so we did not mind. Lots of exhibits and demonstrations. Porpoise show was great.

Such a great variety of fish and even some animals! The dolphin show was quick, but really cool to see. The bird show left something to be desired, but it IS an aquarium after all.. I definitely recommend getting to the dolphin show half an hour early. It will fill up quickly! Also, if you sit in the front half of the splash zone (Blue seats), you will get wet. The 4D theater was well done too. Quick movies allowed for a short wait.
There is free parking on site, but there's little to no view there. So we parked down the street overlooking the beach and the ocean, also for free.
The ability to get stamped on our way out for lunch allowed us to gain reentry. This was nice because it meant we didn't have to rush through anything.
