Conveniently located on North Beach, the Texas State Aquarium is just minutes from Corpus Christi's downtown district, convention center complex, and museums. The Texas State Aquarium Association is a not-for-profit, educational institution that does not receive any city, state, or federal funding for its operations. Every visit to the Texas State Aquarium is a new and exciting discovery of animals that remind us all of our responsibility to those whose world we share. The Aquarium's Second Chances Wildlife Rehabilitation Program is federally permitted and operates under rigorous standards established by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Each year, thousands of protected, endangered or threatened species along the Texas coast become ill or injured. Most are brought to our facility with problems caused directly or indirectly by humans. The goal of the Texas State Aquarium's Second Chances Program is to rehabilitate, and whenever possible, return the animals to their natural environment. Dolphin show was great. Fish exhibits were very interesting and you could always see them. Watch the dolphin show from behind and below. It was cool.

We went on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded. It was pretty entertaining. My 6 yr old loved the dolphin show. It was overpriced but glad we went.

It is a fun place to go- not on the scale of seaworld of course, however much cheaper! Be sure to get the $3.00 x 4 ppl coupon online first!

Best shows: Bird & Cervil + others, Dolphin, Otter

Only downside- they only have 1 otter now (I think there used to be 2?) and they used to have more sea horses and some sea dragons- now just 1 big and 1 small tank of sea horses

Warning- if you don't want to be splashed & feel silly, don't raise your hand for a free burger at the dolphin show. You may end up being "judge". lol

I'm only giving this place 3 stars because I think they are in dire need of funding. This is the most sparse aquarium I have ever seen, both in terms of resident animals, and in terms of habitats. Very small, very crowded (and man, what an annoying crowd...kids running rampant, babies screaming, negligent parents galore...this is not your normal Saturday crowd, it's a whole new level of obnoxious). The animals look depressed and cramped..no one had any toys or things to hide in. The first thing we saw upon walking into the Gulf of Mexico exhibit was a dead fish, and some depressed birds. The ground floor is mostly fish and shark, with some snakes, birds, and jellyfish. The lower level contains the dolphins, alligator, otters, rays, and sea turtles. I was disappointed with how quickly our visit ended...like I said, it is a very small facility. The highlight for us was seeing the two dolphins, one of whom was born in the Minnesota Zoo (and I remember what big news it was for us back then, when I was 6 years old).

Again, while I was not impressed with the aquarium, I think this place is in dire need of funding and remodeling. The staff directly involved with the animals (like the woman hanging around the dolphin tank) were very friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff, all young men and women, seemed pretty apathetic. Please, some wealthy philanthropist help these guys out! What a perfect spot for an aquarium, too bad it's not living up to it's potential!

The exhibits are terrific, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the shows are entertaining. This is a must see attraction. If you can get a discount through an already existing AZA membership, then that is even better.
