This is one of the best views in Salt Lake City. It is located across from Temple Square in the recently renovated City Creek area. Food is served in a buffet style, with various types of meats, fish, shrimp, and salads. Dessert bars are located in the middle of the main walkway. Restaurant is small and the lines can get frustrating. Live music in provided by a clear Grand Piano.

Great location for a romantic dinner or special occasion. Price is a bit high and there is a 90 minute time limit from the time of your reservation. We went during the Christmas season and it took 80 minutes to finish eating because of standing in the long lines. Felt a bit rushed considering the bill was over $ 100.00 for two.

The Roof Restaurant is still very good to excellent. The food is buffet style with great fish, beef (type varies), shrimp and quality salads. The mashed potatoes were OK but everything else was excellent. Lion House rolls are good and the desserts also were good with a lot of choices.

The view is excellent, particularly in December when the grounds of nearby Temple Square and adjacent structures are well lit.

However, the food no longer "Wows" you like it did 10 years or so ago. This place used to be outstanding but now has gone down to excellent. It has lost some magic. No items at the buffet have that magic decadence they once did. Again they are very good, but I agree with many other reviewers on this site--the food is disappointing. It used to be and could be so much better. Please, Roof managers, bring back the magic. There are other choices now and this place is nowhere near number 1 in SLC and it used to be. For drinks, dinner, tip and such for two your bill will likely exceed $100.00. I can get more from Flemmings.

The waiter also had an attitude I didn't care for. He told me I was lucky to get a table near but not at the window and the other tables were for others who reserved earlier. Sorry I am such a second rate customer and that I should feel lucky to sit near a window at a restaurant where the view is a major part of it.

On the plus side, after two phone calls they finally called me back and did allow me to change my reservation to 7:00 PM from 3:30 PM despite the fact that online it stated no such openings were available.

Don't get me wrong, this place is excellent and great for special occasions, but it has lost some of its former greatness. I have eaten at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, eaten at the top (95th floor) of Hancock Tower in Chicago and other places on tops of buildings and the food is somewhere between comparable to better and often less expensive than at the Roof. Once upon a time the Roof had the best food in town plus spectacular atmosphere; still has the latter, not so with the former, but still very good.

My main reasons for going here is always the view! Reservations are really a necessity! This was my second time to dine here and the food is good! Not the best prime rib I have ever had, but not the worst either. I think it is a bit pricy for the foods that are offered, especially for someone like me who can really eat less than a plate of food and just a bite of a couple of deserts, but the view is truly the real reason to go! We have gone in the summer and it is a cool view, but winter time, at night, and with the temple lights on it is just breath taking! Highly recommend!

Food is good. Not fabulous, but good. The view, of course is wonderful. Price is flat $40.00 per adult which is fine for what you get. It's a buffet, akin to a decent one in Vegas.

On the top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly the Hotel Utah, there is no better view in the city. Even if they didn't have a view, their mouth-watering upscale buffet would be enough to attract us. We have made it an annual event--celebrating a birthday or anniversary at this wonderful location.

Tips: If you go in December, you have a great view of the lights at Temple Square as well. If you are celebrating a special occasion, let them know when you make your reservation. And if you haven't been there before, make sure you request a window table when you make your reservation as well. Bottom line, make a reservation; with such, even during the busiest times of the year in downtown SLC, you will be seated promptly.
