I stayed at this hotel for three days recently. I got an excellent price on Priceline. Upon arrival, I thought the hotel might be older - yet inside it was impeccable. I've learned this from staying at several different hotels in Salt Lake City - Don't judge it from the outside. The place was huge and extremely modern inside - both the lobby and rooms. The staff were very friendly. Room service staff were amazing. And, the bathroom products - the soaps and shampoo and conditioner, etc. were the BEST! I even called and asked for some more. I wish I could buy some of the soaps etc. as they would make great gifts. They were all natural and smelled amazing. I loved the hotel and would stay there again - best price in a great area.

This hotel is a little further from some of the city's main attractions (City Center, Temple Square, The Gateway, etc.) than other centrally-located hotels. However, there is a Trax station a couple of blocks away, which makes it quick and easy to get anywhere downtown. Like all of Salt Lake, I find the hotel's area to be safe and I didn't hesitate to walk to/from the hotel at night.

The rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. The unobstructed views of the Wasatch Mountains from the room can't be beat! Staff were friendly and helpful. I did find that some of the common areas/hallways looked a little tired. However, this did not affect the overall quality of my stay. It would have been nice to hvae had room service though.

Like all Red Lion hotels, this one is a good value for the quality of hotel. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: For the best views, ask for a high floor on the east side of the hotel.

If you book with the Red Lion 4 month before your stay it can happen that they cancel your reservation 1 (one!) day before you arrive. The claim was that they got 2 large group reservations. Then find another hotel in a city with a large conference ...

Never book at this hotel when a conference is scheduled.

Dear Ko B,
Please accept my sincere apology for bungling your reservation during the IEEE citywide conference in Salt Lake City. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, we were overbooked, which led to the unfortunate but rare relocation of a few of our guests. More than anything, we wanted to accommodate all who had a reservation, and we made every effort up to the last minute to find a solution; in the end, all we could do was assist our guests with guaranteed reservations in finding comparable loding as close to our hotel as possible. We completely understand how frustrating and disappointing this must have been. My only hope is that you will contact the hotel at your earliest convenience to discuss this matter further. We look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes to you, and have a wonderful day.

First, great, fun, happy staff, all around: desk, restaurant, bar, gift shop, maintenance staff, shuttle drivers. Comfortable, cozy public areas, nice room - ask for an east-facing room for stunning billion-dollar display of mountains. Breakfast buffet nice, easy, inexpensive (relative to Hilton, etc): hot stuff, cereal, oatmeal with the works, fresh fruit, good coffee, juice, free newspapers. New restaurant excellent food - styled like a diner, with comfort food, but a step or three above standard fare. The chef stopped by my table to ask my opinion. Wow. He's quite proud, and rightfully so, of what he's put together. Described recipe for the sweet potato fries. Free shuttle to and from airport, frequent, on-schedule. A few blocks from convention center gave me a little bit of exercise each day - 10 minutes or so, safe early morning and late night.

But measure a business by the way they handle things when something goes wrong. I was there for 6 nights, so something bound to happen. Boarding pass machine down - well marked, apologized for and they quickly print it out for me on their computer.

First time in Salt Lake after tens of trips through the airport - a very nice surprise. Easy walking, excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. A couple of blocks to the Bayou restaurant, for cryin' out loud, a must eat and drink place. Squatter's Pub, fantastic. Felt like I was in San Francisco, Denver, etc. I will bring my family of young children here in search of powdery snow, will definitely stay at Red Lion. Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: East facing view stunning mountains. Don't know that west face would be any less spectacular, bu...

We stayed here one night an found this hotel to be very centrally located, and of excellent value. The room was large, well-appointed (refrigerator, microwave, too) and clean. They have an excellent shuttle to the airport, which is included in the room cost. We also were very pleased with the staff; they were friendly and very helpful.

Room Tip: Some rooms have better views of the city or the mountains, but they come at a higher price.

We stayed at Red Lion last week and had a good time. Close to temple square and easy enough to get to all attractions and restaraunts. Every was very friendly and breakfast buffet was inexpensive and tasty. There is a bar and "reds" kinda like a 50's diner. Food looked good but we went out every night. Only thing bad I could say about this hotel is that it needs to be updated. Our bed was comfortable and at first glance was very nice but then you noticed things like the ceiling was falling in and little hairs stuck to walls. Oh, and Internet wasn't working at all, which I heard lots of guests complaining about. Bed clean and very comfortable.. Slept well.

We stayed in this hotel in October. The beds were fine, the room clean. However, there was room for improvement in service. I called in early afternoon to request someone come to check the thermostat because it did not seem to be cooling. No one ever came to check it. A little later in the afternoon I called housekeeping to request a couple more items for the bathroom. No one ever showed up. I have had better service than this at cheaper hotels. Many of the cheaper hotels have more than just one packet of coffee available in the room, have more than just two wash cloths, more than just one chair in the room, and have both a refrigerator and microwave.

Dear Valued Guest
Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay at Red Lion Salt Lake Downtown. We enjoy tending to our guests needs and providing extra coffee and other amenities—shame on us for missing this opportunity to delight you! Our only hope is that you will give us another try and enjoy a much improved stay. Have a wonderful day, and we hope to see you again in the near future.
