“Always beautiful for young and old”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Love Big Cottonwood Canyon. Great Hikes--some short, some long. Even just driving along the road is worth the trip, some 45-60 minutes round trip without stopping. A short walk around Silver Lake is always very nice, but there are lots of places to stop. Winter skiing is great. This place is beautiful, just can't say much more.

More crowded now than in years past, but still visit every time I come.

“skiing is always good, but we didn't get fresh snow”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Air quality was really bad in Salt Lake City - something they call "inversion". Never seen it that bad before. It's something to check before deciding on a ski trip again.

“Beautiful in the fall”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

if you can plan a trip when the leaves are changing, you will not be disappointed. Go up to Brighton at the top of the canyon, or continue up over Guardsman Pass (it's being paved now) to Park City. Lots of moose in that area as well, and the fall is the best time to see them.

Fantastic mountain biking up there too.

“Love this canyon”

This canyon goes way back to my childhood. I love the rocks, the picnic areas, the hiking areas. Very easy to get to from Salt Lake City area.

“Good skiing but great for snowboarders”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Solitude and Brighton are two ski resorts up Big Cottonwood Canyon. They each have fun things about them, but I haven't been to Solitute in years. I've been to Brighton several times and at 40+ years old I am definitely in the minority. This place is very popular with the younger snowboard crowd. The number of skiers is coming back but the average age is still young.
