This hike is pretty quick and a moderate challenge (my 70+ year old parents made it with a few breaks) and the view from the top lets you take in the whole Salt Lake valley to the south, as well as the Salt Lake itself to the west.
Very short and easy hike leading to a beautiful view over the SLC and surrounding areas. Great for kids, elder, anyone you can think of!
Enjoyed the hike up to the top. Loved seeing the entire salt lake valley from this angle. There are two trails, if you are physically able it's worth the climb to the top.
A very short, yet slightly challenging hike out of nowhere within a residential area. It is a really good way to see downtown SLC, and the Great Salt Lake. The hike itself is roughly 1 mile round trip, that has a challenging incline. It's not the hardest hike to make, but on a hot day, you'll definitely need to take a break and hydrate. Amazing views, and cool to see a piece of Mormon history.
Many trails leading off from The Ensign Peak trail at the top, hiking for days if you choose, connecting to The Bonneville Shoreline trail. Everything from easy, moderate to very difficult.
Take water and poles if you intend to hike beyond the Ensign Peak. It can get intensely hot!
There is parking on the road, a great park for picnics and stunning views in all directions!
If this is your first time to SLC and if it's your first time hiking, this is an excellent intro walk and a great way to see the city. We took a taxi past the Capitol Building to the last bit of residential housing. Then we hiked up the foothills to the top of Ensign Peak. It's about a 30-minute climb. It's an easy hike to the monument at the summit. But be sure to attempt it in the early evening (around 5:00 or 5:30 pm, during the summer time). Otherwise, it will be too hot as there is little canopy cover. The view at the top is worth it. This is where Brigham Young first surveyed the valley. So, it's good exercise, a super view, and a bit of history all rolled in together.
