Although we didn't go all the way to the top (my husband has bad knees), we were able to get a great view from the trail. Shortly after you leave the entrance to the park, as you go up the trail, turn to the left and walk over to a concrete pad. From there, you can see the Great Salt Lake in the distance as well as a great view of the valley below. Free attraction! The hike to the top isn't that difficult according to other visitors. Would be beautiful at sunset! Free parking on the street. Ensign Point is just north of the Capitol and on most maps. The entrance to the park is in a residential neighborhood and it took us a bit of driving around to find it. Worth the stop!

Probably one of the shortest hikes to get to the top of a ridge or peak in the area. This makes it very popular in the evenings with pretty much everyone from visitors to community members alike. Great sunset!

Hiked this with my four month old (in a front carrier). I've hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim before, so this really was short, but the view of the city was astounding. Some of the trail was rough and some loose rocks caused some kids on the trail to slip a bit. It is steep though. The switchbacks barely put a dent in the steepness. Short, but not easy. And if you're not used to altitude hiking, it ends at 5,416 feet, so be careful out there.

Salt lake has some great sights and this one is easy to access. You park on a residential street and the hike is very short. But the view is amazing. You can really see all of Salt Lake City from this view. Love it.

Great trail, well marked, and very scenic. The elevation at the top is around 5300 feet, so it is quite a climb if you are used to lower altitudes like I am. The view from the top is amazing, all the way to the Great Salt Lake and great mountain views. Definitely worth the hike, just take your time and take water! It is only 1/2 mile but the slope is steep.
