Description: Winner Best of State Best Breakfast, Penny Ann's Cafe is a family affair. The restaurant's namesake, Penny Ann, and her sister, Cindy, can often be found seating patrons, serving tables or chatting pleasantly with the restaurant's regular customers. Penny's brother Warren is the executive Chef and brother Paul is behind the scenes helping with day to day operations. Wayne and Jane, the parents of the bunch, can often be seen around too helping with all aspects of the business. There are also many nieces and nephews who help cook, prep, serve and bus tables as well as the outstanding staff who feel like family. Originally from upstate New York, the Willey family prides itself on creating the east coast diner family atmosphere where guests can feel comfortable, and relax while they indulge in homemade comfort food. Not only is the atmosphere comfortable and inviting, the food is top notch. For the second year in a row, Penny Ann's Café was the winner of the Best of State award for Best Breakfast. They are known as the Home of the "Heavenly Hot Cakes", and the pancakes are a fantastic place to start when trying to decide on something from the menu. heavenly-hot-cakesHead chef Warren Willey has been a chef for many years, and his experience translates into his down-home cooking. Originally from New York, Warren was a chef there before coming to Utah. After the move, he was a chef at Park City's Westgate Grill for 10 years before the family decided to open Penny Ann's. In June of 2011, Penny Ann's opened its doors in downtown Salt Lake City, and had almost instant popularity. After three years in the downtown site, the family decided to open another location and opened in Draper in December of 2014 and are looking at future expansion in the coming months and years.

Tom, Great News! We just won Best of State Best Breakfast. I am sorry to hear that you did not have a good lunch experience. This is not typical but I understand it happens and I always want to correct any problems so they do not occur in the future. Please try us again for breakfast. Thank you so much for your review and feedback. Penny Ann.

“Best pancakes in SLC”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

I have been here a couple of times and have enjoyed both my meals. The pancakes are really fantastic-light, fluffy and perfectly delicious. I enjoyed an egg dish on my other visit-can't remember what but it was tasty. I took a point off because I came for the pies and found them underwhelming both times. The filling was good (banana cream) but the crust had a rancid taste. I plan to try again, as this place showed up when I googled "best pies in SLC"; perhaps it was just a bad batch.

Waitstaff are AWESOME. Super fun and charming-makes the wait for this tiny cafe worth it.

“Yup, it's that good!”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

I'm a breakfast guy, what can I say and this place is tasty! It is in a place you would not find easily (ground floor of an apartment complex), but once you're inside, you know these people are serious about making quality food. You simply have to try the breakfast nachos and the pancakes are awesome (not heavy). We've been back at least three times. Take your date, spouse first and then return with friends...

“Friendly Attentive waitstaff accompanied by Awesome Food!”
Reviewed June 7, 2014 via mobile

Excellent food! We came expecting to have lunch really quick before they closed, instead we learned its breakfast only all day on the weekends! We enjoyed a fabulous meal on the patio. Fantastic home style breakfast, very generous portions and very attentive and cooperative waitstaff made for an excellent first dining experience! Next time we are in Salt Lake we will be stopping by again!

“Penny Ann's Quiche”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Had a wonderful breakfast at Penny Ann's. The bacon quiche was wonderful. Large serving and filling, so plenty of left-overs.
