Description: The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

“So Good!”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

We dropped in for happy/appy hr. and were so impressed. Our waitress Ammie guided us to the perfect pairing of charcuterie/cheese and wine that was amazing. We topped it off with killer pork belly and grilled cauliflower. We wish we had room for more or lived in SLC! Next time we're in town we will definitely go here again!

“You will enjoy this place”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Great energy, friendly and solicitous staff, interesting menu, well priced. Roast cauliflower appetizer was fabulous and the braised pork chop with pearl onions, sliced red peppers over creamy polenta was inspired. It was all good!

“Best Grilled Ham Cheese Ever !!!”
Reviewed March 16, 2014 via mobile

Had lunch there Friday and this place always delivers on exceptional food. You have to be patient though. Service can be spotty and slow. If you are in no rush for lunch this is a great place to eat. Food is always fantastic. The split pea soup coupled with the grilled ham and cheese is off the charts. For desert the cheesecake is ridiculous.

“A bit of a disappointment”
Reviewed March 16, 2014 via mobile

Maybe I went in with my expectations too high. Or, maybe I ordered the wrong things. But, this meal really was a disappointment. This place has a really hip feel to it, but that is about the best I could say about it. We did get adventurous with our order, pork belly and bone marrow. But, hey, we were in cowboy country where these items should be pretty good. These picks, and the Manila clam special, were all so greasy and full of butter, they were difficult to eat. We gave up on the pork belly altogether. Not sure if I will be returning to give it another chance.

“Wonderful for lunch (haven't been for dinner)”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

We have stopped into the Copper Onion for lunch and for late afternoon bites on several occasions. The food has always proven flavorful and inventive. Last week two of us shared their version of a Caesar salad, the leek fettuccine, and the Brussels sprouts. The salad maintained the crispness of the romaine (the lettuce was shredded and wilted but instead the heart was served halved lengthwise), the croutons were light (clearly home- and freshly made), and the dressing ingredients meshed nicely. The pasta was perfectly cooked fresh pasta. The lunch was nicely complemented by either beer (which I had) or wine (which my companion had). Since it was a leisurely lunch, we could not resist the chocolate pudding, which was a revelation -- the pudding was topped with whipped cream, sea salt, and olive oil. While this may seem like an odd combination, the salt and oil cut the sweetness of the chocolate. The texture of the pudding itself was fine -- neither too like and frothy (it was not advertised as a mousse) nor too dense (it was not advertised as a panna cotta).
