Description: The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

“YES we will return”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

we arrived early for a 5:00 reservation, and ordered some items from there limited menu. Pork belly & split pea soup, the Brussels Spouts on the pork seemed tired, soup was great and hot on on a cold night. At this point service was OK. Sat at our table in the dining room, nice decor, we sat next a windows (you can feel the cold coming through the metal framed windows, bring a sweater). Great hot bread offered with olive oil, I had a the Commodore drink tasty, we split the escarole salad, (not great, but good). Entrees arrived, hot and great presentation. Strip steak was a little salty, the special Zabuton was great. Both steaks cooked to the proper temperature. Service was great, not over bothersome, good suggestions. We will return

“First view belies the overall wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

From the outside this place seemed like a diner. Even walking inside, it looked to us like it might be mediocre, especially when we were asked to sit at the counter. But our opinion quickly changed for the positive as we saw the menu and the food presentations.

We learned that this restaurant uses locally sourced cuisine, and the menu brings a uniqueness and flair that is loved by those of us thst are foodies. For lunch we split a bowl of delicious soup, and one of us had the pork belly and one had the beet and walnut salad. Everything was outstanding. Servings were plentiful without being too large.

As the lunch crowd wound down, and the cooks had a little more time to converse, we had a very pleasant conversation about preparations and serving...obviously the restaurant has a very dedicated and committed staff.

We will return soon!

“Taking customers for granted”

I love the food and the chefs at Copper Onion but the service is always so terrible. The servers have little training and no supervision of the staff. There's a reason Cooper Onion is THE LAST place I will choose to go from now on

“Great restaurant”

I was in SLC on business and one of my colleagues took me here. What a great choice. Food was fantastic (pork chop), atmosphere and service very good, as well.

“steak salad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

the food at Copper Onion really is all it is cracked up to be. We were there a few days before Thanksgiving...no wait, great table (even though the restaurant was full) I had the steak salad, we had the ricotta dumpling app. all was really good. The steak was faboo (don't ask for steak sauce, they don't like that...but hey I am just who I am). So good, for a great treat walk across the way for a movie at the Broadway theatre...totally holiday nirvana!
