Description: The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.

“Farm To Table Concept”

The Copper Onion was a cute boutiquish type of restaurant. We sat outside under their orangish/tangerine colored awnings. It was a bit of an American Bistro meeting hits and highlights of Europe. I appreciated their charcuterie board, their hand made pastas and cucumber flavored water. They have a variety of cheeses from around the world such as France, Spain, the USA, and Italy. They make their own pasta! I tried the cacio e peppe, which was fettucine with scallions and black pepper. For some reason, I was thinking of fettucine alfredo when I ordered it and was disappointed that I received a pasta w/o alfredo sauce, my fault. It was good, but not my favorite. Next time I will try the carbonara or the wagyu beef stroganoff. Prices range from about $18 to $25 for a dish, which is quite expensive for the Utahans. The service is attentive, the ambience is fantastic, especially on a crisp sparkling night and the space is intimate and even romantic! Great place for a date or for catching up with friends. Close to the Green Pig for a nightcap on their rooftop patio. Didn't have time for desserts, the the server enchanted us with a carrot cake and some kind of brownie. Next time! Loved the cute pig statue on the way out!

“pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

went here for dinner on recommendation from hotel concierge.

even though the restuarant seems to have a lot of sophsisticated offerings, we were looking for something simple. So we both ordered the burger.

Was absolutely the best burger I've ever had.

My guess is they have a lot of satisfied customers for most of their offerings.

Give it a try if you are in the neighborhood.

“You can't go wrong with this place...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012

I've been here a few times since they opened and have loved it more each visit. The ingredients are fresh and mostly local, the local cheeses are especially delicious. Location is great, close to Trax and right next to a parking garage. Definitely make a reservation because the place fills up quickly, even on weeknights. The atmosphere is a casual, a little loud but not bad. Be sure to try the pork belly salad, it's my favorite!

“A Well Kept Secret in SLC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

A long time friend recommended we meet for dinner , and what a surprise this restaurant was. The location is easy to find, with a parking garage next store, which made it easy. We would recommend a reservation, since the restaurant filled up quickly. We all had the Beef Stroganoff, which was so gooood! We also had the ceasar salad.....for desert we had had the chocolate ice-creram , which appearred to be home made, and I had the chocolate cherry ice cream. It was super. My partner had the vanilla with rosemary ice cream. I t was so tasty !!! We spent 3.5 hours without being rushed out the door, and it was a great place to discuss our 40th High School Reunion. The server couldn't have been nicer, and wasn't over bearing. When we are back in SLC, the restaurant is already on the list. When we spoke with other friends in SLC, they had no idea of the restaurant.
