Owner description: The utilitarian home of Brigham Young, the president of the Mormon Church.

The tour is free and was worth the visit to see how the heads of the LDS lived in the late 1800's.
The woodwork and decor was outstanding and Young and his son were obviously good craftsmen.
Like the visit to other LDS sites you wonder how the Mormons achieved this level of affluence when you consider the hardship they must have gone through on the "trail" across the country. They were supposed to have been so poor that they could only afford a hand cart to do the journey. The guides had very little knowledge on the past history but did the usual thing of wanting you to join the LDS.

Fascinating house and great to see. Disappointed in the lack off background history the two Mormon guides had as a number of our questions were answered by another couple on the tour who worked at a local museum and clearly had more knowledge.

We weren't planning to visit here, but when we walked past and noticed it was open, we went in. I love historical sites, but I didn't expect the sweet experience I had here. There were many items original to the Young family, we learned a lot of history of the building and early SLC, and it had a lovely peaceful feeling inside. Thank you to the missionaries who led our tour!
