This spot is a little gem in the Avenues near the State Capitol. It is a place which honors Brigham Young, the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (The Mormon's) He has been touted as a modern day Moses. The meticulous planning and preparations he made to migrate members of the Church to a safe place far away from persecutions in Illinois was an undertaking of great magnitude. He was a great man of many talents and capabilities. He was the city planner of Salt Lake City which was laid out in a grid with streets running north, east, west and south of the Temple. The streets were made wide enough for a wagon and team to turn around. He set up wards according to city blocks in which people would be cared for by a bishop and his counselors. He set up a perpetual immigration fund whereby those who had safely arrived in the valley by funds contributed by others could then pay a portion in behalf of those making the journey after them. He is honored and revered by members of the Church as well as historians who have studied his life and achievements.

I was quite surprised to find this park hidden amoung apartment buildings in downtown SLC. It is a peaceful and rather beautiful burial ground for Brigham Young and family members.

Not really a major destination - but a part of a complete visit to Temple Square. Worth seeing - but not the goal in and of itself!

Meridian marker for Salt lake City, UT. Beautifully kept gardens and flowers. Peace and serenity. Have a box lunch or just sit and enjoy the garden. Located in Downton=wn Salt Lake but miles away from it all
