“Great place to stay!”
Reviewed January 17, 2007

My husband and I spent five nights at the Hotel Monaco while skiing Utah's great mountains. We had a great stay. Everyone at the hotel is so helpful and friendly. The room was great. Not huge, but an efficient and comfortable use of space. The bathroom was especially nice. The hotel decorations are fun. The wine reception in the evening is a nice touch. The only thing we felt was missing was a hot tub. But, if you are a business traveler, it probably doesn't matter. We also thought the valet parking was kind of pricey - $16 per night with taxes. We also found the location very convenient. You can pretty much walk everywhere in downtown if you don't want to move the car.

We just came back today from New years Hotel monaco. Never a complaint, great service, great deal, loved getting the NY Times along with the Tribune each day. The new shower bling is wonderful, going to go on line tonight to buy some..We had a great time with their first night package, will book again and again!

Having slept in all of the hotels posted in the top ten on this site I have to say that I cannot believe that this hotel is ranked below the Little America and the Grand America, and not ranked as #1.

1 - This hotel is right in the heart of the city with plenty of parking and access to all things great in SLC.

2 - The Little America is soooo not attractive and the inside looks like an over the top brothel. No wait, the man who built this hotel - Earl Holding, walked into a brothel and said "decorate my hotel just like this, but make it more ostentacious."

3 - The Bambara restaraunt is one of the greatest in Salt Lake and is in the lobby of this hotel, the red door - the coolest martini bar in Salt Lake is next door, and the theater is two buildings down. The TRAX (over ground subwayish-trolley) is right out front, as is the Gallivan Plaza. Seriously, everything you want from the city is right at your fingertips.

4 - The rooms are sooo fun!

  • Disliked — No pool.
  • Tips/Secrets — Visit the hotel's web site to book for all sorts of fun specials.

The Monaco, just as its counterpart in Seattle, is a vibrant, colourful, youthful, chic and romantic hotel eminently suited to anyone who wishes to spend a few days in SLC. I spent it for the CHEST conference and loved every minute of the Monaco. The service was faultless, the bonfire roaring, the wine tasting excellent, the free massage delightful and the staff jouyful, courteous and friendly. Sorry, but I can´t find any fault whatsoever, except possibly the discontinuation of the sunday brunch.

  • Liked — The wine tasting, massage and the courteous reception given to two-and four-legged guests alike
  • Disliked — Lack of pool

Spent two nights here on a family vacation. The service was fantastic, and the front desk was exceedingly helpful regarding directions and tourist info. (A goldfish in the room for our kids was a nice touch.) The restaurant in the hotel was superb, if pricey. All in all, the place was elegant, but low key. Really enjoyed it.

Who's big idea was it to put stereos in each room at the Monaco? Televisions are bad enough when turned up too loud but thumping music coming through the walls is unbearable, especially at midnight. It doesn't help that all the stereos are powered on by the turn down service. Bring earplugs if you're sensitive to noise.

I liked the decor at the Monaco but hated the cheap matress. Our suite was tiny with only three drawers and a small closet to keep a week's worth of clothes. In-room bottled water cost $5.00.

However, the Red Door, which is directly across from the Monaco's entrance serves great martinis. Give it a try.
