“A few things you may want to know...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2008

I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel, but there are a few things guests may want to know.

Number one, there is a $15.50 charge per night for valet parking, which is pretty much your only choice for parking. (The fee is added to your room bill).

Number two, our 'deluxe' queen room was immaculate and beautiful, but tiny. The sink in our bathroom wouldn't drain, but they sent someone immediately to fix it. He was quick and efficient.

Number three, the water pressure in the shower was very weak.

Number four, I could hear the elevator every time someone used it. I went to sleep to the sound of it and woke up to the sound of it. It wasn't horrible, but definitely noticeable.

I booked this room for a romantic weekend get-away but didn't find that this hotel offered anything that made it any more special than a less expensive hotel would have. Next time I'll spend the money I save on hotel charges for a fancy dinner and entertainment.

  • Liked — The decor and cleanliness
  • Disliked — Tiny room, noisy elevator, weak water pressure

Carpets and furnishings are showing signs of wear. This greatly reduces the "fun and cool" feel and makes you feel like you are in a french brothel that needs sterilizing. There were a lot of little things like a slow internet connection in the lobby (at $5.95 for 15 minutes) and extremely slow valet car pick-up in the morning that make this hotel less than adequate for a business traveler.

The Monaco was elegant and inviting from the parking attendants to the beautiful rooms. We loved the fun and friendly staff, I am a big fan of the cabana shirts! It was our wedding night and got congratulated by each staff member we saw. The bar was lovely, the lobby was immaculate. Our room was decorated beautifully. We have been back several times since. We live in Salt Lake but love staying at the Monaco for a fun get away. The goldfish in our room was also a fun touch !

  • Liked — The fine staff and the beautiful linens

Yeah, I was impressed when I walked through the door, but it was the staff that shined the most for me. Everyone from the doormen, to check-in, to room service and housekeeping were the friendliest I've ran into in awhile. I found the people in SLC in general to be down to earth friendly.
The room was huge (we had a suite). I found the decor to be a bit strange at first, but it kind of grew on me after awhile. Comfy bed, nice linens, plump towels. L'Occitane toiletries were a nice touch.
The only gripe I have was the cost of our room service breakfast. $50 for a bowl of oatmeal, toast, a muffin, fruit and coffee for 2.
They should either include breakfast with the cost of the room or at least offer a buffet breakfast for a reasonable price. Maybe they do and I just didn't know about it.
Even so, I would definitely return and take advantage of the afternoon wine tasting.

  • Liked — Friendly service, leopard print bathrobes, Hotel Monaco's
  • Disliked — price of room service, hotel restaurant closes at 9, not much to choose from after hours menu

Had a business conference here for three days the only problem we had was the fact that one night we had no water pressure in the bath when the hotel was fully booked. Other then that the free massage and wine tasting everynight as well as being able to request a fish in your room was astonishing! The hotel is walking distance of many great restaurants and bars. I would stay there again any night. Bring a map the one way streets around it can be confusing.

We just spent a long weekend for the reopening of the State Capitol festivities in SLC. The Monaco was a pleasant surprise. It's luxurious from the lobby where they offer massages and wine at 5pm to the nice suite we had on the "tall floor" which has longer beds and higher ceilings. The young and hip staff really go out of their way to accomodate and make sure you have fun. We tested them with a lot of requests and they were all polite and professional. The renovated former bank building has a lot of character in a great central SLC location. There are great restaurants nearby and the Bambara in the hotel itself is also beautiful and very good if a bit high priced. The Monaco room rates, however, offered an affordable luxury at a fraction of the price of either Coast.

  • Liked — Super decor and comfortable lobby and rooms.
  • Disliked — Restaurant was somewhat overpriced

I had the opportunity to stay at the Monaco (say it "MON-a-co" twice this year. The first time was in July for 2 nights, in the tiniest sweetest room I have ever stayed in. It would have been very cozy for two, but was so nice for just me! Beautifully decorated room, very comfortable bed and pillows, fabulous sheets. Everything was excellent, down to the L’Occitane toiletries!

The second time I stayed for 4 nights, and was given a "Monte Carlo Suite" which had a separate sitting room. It felt decadent to have that room all to myself. The staff are friendly and very helpful. A terrific restaurant right in the hotel. You do have to pay $15 per night for parking, though, but it is valet. If need be, there is a parking garage nearby which is a cheaper option. Don't forget to ask for a goldfish to stay with you in your room if you don't bring your dog along.

  • Liked — L’Occitane toiletries! If you need to buy soap, you aren't travelling enough.
  • Disliked — Parking costs
