“Great hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2009

We booked a standard courtside room for $99 a night. We were very happy with our choice. The hotel has a great fitness area, spa and pool. Just in front of the hotel leaves the (free) tram to the downtown area. Room was very clean, a free newpaper was provided daily. Dinner at the sports bar was also good. Only negative thing was that because of some construction activities we were not able to get to the main part of the hotel directly. We had to go outside and walk around, but this shouldn't be a problem normally.

I booked this hotel off Priceline.com for about $70/night (including taxes and fees). I called the hotel to see which "level" of room I was getting, and it was a Deluxe Garden King room. This is a room in the lodge part of the hotel, not in the main "tower" of the hotel. We stayed in the Tower Room a few years ago and remember it was a nice experience.

I read the reviews before we went and I was prepared to be disappointed. But I got there and had to wonder what were all these people complaining about? The reviews I had read compared the Garden Room to a motel room. Had these people ever stayed at a real motel like Extended Stay America? I have, and let me tell you, this was way way way above that.

First of all, the room is big--500 square feet. The room was clean. The bed had a down duvet cover and plenty of soft pillows that were down-like. I was worried the duvet cover wouldn't keep us warm overnight but it was really toasty. Other people have said the room is dated in decor. It was a bit of blue and pink and gold (from the 90's), but it wasn't distasteful. I thought the room was nice.

The bathroom is big and has the same big oval bathtub that the Tower Room (as I remember it) has. There's a separate vanity and sink outside the bathroom in addition to the sink and big counter inside the bathroom.

One of the best differences for us between the Garden Room and the Tower Room is that the Garden Room has a compact fridge in the bathroom where we stashed our leftovers. The Tower Room only has a fridge if you rent it (which we did last time; I think it was $10-15).

The parking garage is underneath the lodge and parking is free. I thought it was odd that to take the stairs from the garage up to your floor you have to insert your room key for access, but you don't have to in order to use the elevator. That made me feel slightly less safe, since anyone can use the elevator.

We used the pool, hot tub, and sauna and thought all were wonderful. Because the lodge area is separate from the hotel part (with the pool, etc.) you have to walk outside to get there, and it was a cold night.

The front door people were nothing but courteous. Our room faced 600 South (busy street) but the sound was never very audible like I had been worried. We never heard our neighbors.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and thought for $70/night (compared to $119/night via the hotel Web site, and that's before taxes) it was a good deal.

I have stayed here several times. The rooms are not decorated in a very contemporary style -but they are very comfortable and I especially like turndown service. The chocolate mint is delicious. I also like that the rooms are extremely spacious and some of them have balconies. Its also a good location -easy access to the free public transit.

Booked this hotel for one night for $65.00 on Priceline. Upon arrival at the hotel an extremely courteous and pleasant woman at the desk advised us that we were booked in a Garden Room. This came as no surprise since we didn't expect a Tower room with a booking from Priceline.

During the regisistration the desk person looked at the computer screen and said that we were upgraded to a tower room. The room was on the 6th floor (610) and was huge about 600 square feet. The bathroom (2 rooms) was beautiful and the tub and shower combination was so inviting that I couldn't wait to have a good soak.

We must have been awful lucky to get this upgrade and I still can't figure out why they would do this for a Priceline customer, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

The location of the hotel was perfect. It is located at 500 South so all you have to do is jump on the free light rail car across the street to get to Temple Square. On a nice day, which this was, we enjoyed a nice walk to the Square.

Also a plus was the free parking under the hotel. Parking spaces were large and elevators take you from the garage to all floors of the tower.

One word of advice. If you want a nice lunch go to the Family History building on Temple West and you can ask for a pass to the cafeteria in the basement of the LDS headquarters (the large skycraper North East of the Temple. You can't eat there if you are not affiliated with the church or not in possession of said pass. It is a huge cafeteria with good food and many stations such as soup and bread, grill, Mexican etc. One special was carved prime rib at about $7.00.

Comfy, plush big rooms, excellent staff, The only problem i had was that the elevator got stuck on the 6th floor, with me in it! All fine though and elevator worked fine after that.

I decided to try Hotwire to book a stay for an anniversary weekend in Salt Lake City. We got a great deal on a "4 star" hotel and ended up being booked at the Little America Hotel. I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and have always had a great experience there. We ended up in a garden room (at ground level - separate from the main hotel), and although not 4 star quality, it was quite nice and clean. Emily at the front desk was great at check in. We tried the wireless internet access, but it was very spotty in the room and only worked right next to the window. Our cell phone didn't have service in the room either. There was a coke machine outside of our door, but it was out of order, so I walked down the hallway and tried another one which took my money, but no diet coke. I called the front desk and was told they would send one down, but I never saw it. We tried the onsite restaurant for breakfast. It was mostly like an overpriced Denny's, and the waitress was strangely rude and standoffish. There was a remodel project on the second floor that we had to walk through to get to the pool, and once we got there our key wouldn't open the door, so we had to walk down through the lobby (very nice lobby) in our swimming suits to have someone let us into the pool. Once we got in, the pool was great. The water was warm, there was a hot tub, and a nice exercise room. I would recommend this hotel, but not as a 4 star hotel (unless you get a room in the actual hotel - not the garden or courtside rooms). Overall we had a good time, and there were only minor inconveniences at the hotel.

We were there for four days with the USS Enterprise Reunion. Most of the group stayed in the courtyard rooms, which are away our from the main building. The rooms are very small, but nicely decorated. A bit unhandy for for our World War II veterans who are now in their late 80's since all the restaurants are in the main building, making it it difficult for those with walkers and canes. Would have been nice to be in the main building with elevators, etc. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which are very nice, larger with a sitting area. A few problems cropped up, but nothing serious and was taken care of immediately. Very clean and efficiently run hotel. We only ate in the cafe which was very good. Heard the steak house there is excellent. Our banquet was held there, and the dinner and service was very good. Would like to mention that the indoor-outdoor pool in the main building is one of the best! We love to relax by the pool and swim. Water temperature was perfect, beautiful surroundings and you can order food to be brought up there. It was wonderful!!! There is another outdoor pool by the courtyard which is very nice too.

The location is so, so. Not to much around there except other hotels, but there is local transportation that you can take for free to the Gateway Mall , the Mormon Temple and other places of interest. Be sure and ask at the information desk in the main building about transportation, etc. They were a big help!!

We so enjoyed Salt Lake City...beautiful city, easy to get around, the Gateway Mall is huge, lots of good places to eat too.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir gave a special performance for our group. The last song was the " Battle Hymn of the Republic" and after, our World War II veterans were given a standing ovation. How great is that!!! Thanks Salt Lake City and to everyone who helped put on such a memorable reunion.
