“Rooms with a View”
Reviewed July 13, 2008

We had a room with two Queens and patio. The view was mostly of the golf course with the mountains peaking up from behind. Our room was on the first floor; I have had a King room on the second floor. I would request a second floor patio room because a green chain link fence separates the hotel from the golf course. You have to look through the fence at the view. Also, on the first floor people were walking past our patio to get to their rooms. It is narrow walk; we had to close the curtains to keep people from looking into our room. The King room was in the part of the hotel that slopes uphill, so it seems as if your on the first floor, but your driving up to the second floor to park and the patio is on the outside back. I think they call these rooms King Executive.
The vanity area is nice; the hotel is very clean. The staff does look over-worked. We heard the manager say to a hotel worker as he was leaving with two beers in hand; "I know the internet is down, but don't call me no matter how many complaints." It looked like he had a tough day. We heard the same young man on the phone with the internet company; the internet was down for most of the night; it came on then went out again.
A Starbucks is at the foot of the hotel. It is a nicely designed one. I didn't see any other hotels in Port Angeles that I would stay in.

Since I didn't do the booking for our stay I'm not sure how this motel's rates were for the time and place, but I thought it was much better than most Best Westerns my wife and I have stayed in during the last five years. Normally I would not book at BW based upon our previous experiences.
The motel was clean, convenient to the ferry service and the two men that were working the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful.
Added benefit was in room WiFi and a good selection of TV channels. We did not use the dining room but there's restaurants and coffee shops handy

We *loved* our stay at the Best Western Olympic Lodge. The room looked brand new, it was so spotless and clean! The bed was miraculously comfortable - pillowtop with a soft, feathery duvet. We had a lovely view of the water from our room, too.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Internet access worked great. The hotel was decorated with beautiful photographs of the nearby park.

We used the Lodge as our hub to see the mountainous half of Olympic National Park. It was conveniently located to Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent and Sol Duc Hot Springs. We were also within walking distance of lots of restaurants. The downtown area of Port Angeles was a few minute car ride, too.

The Best Western Olympic Lodge is probablly the nicest hotel in Port Angeles - based on what I saw there.

It isn't the nicest of hotels, but it is definitely above average for the area. The lobby is very welcoming and it was a good place for my husband and I to use as a "base" while traveling around Washington.

I checked rates on Expedia, AAA, and with the hotel directly. All three places quoted the same rate, so I booked directly with the hotel.

Their breakfast was good, but as others have mentioned - expensive. We paid $7/person for breakfast. It was a hot meal, but there was no option to have just cereal and coffee for no charge.

We had a room that overlooked the golf course and it was very pretty. Also, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a little small, but having the extra sink and vanity area outside of the bathroom was a big plus!

Their shampoo and conditioner that they provided in the small bottles was Pantene and the lotion was a vaseline type. Very nice!

Wonderful accommodations. Beautiful room and grounds overlooking a golf course with mountain in background. Breakfast was $5.00 but well worth the price. A little pricey for us, but they have discounts on room prices as do most motels. We definitely recommend in all aspects.

Overall, we enjoyed the Olympic Lodge. We would recommend it for families. We wished we had read the reviews here more carefully, though, as a room in the rear of the hotel with the golf course view would have been absolutely lovely. Be sure to request those rooms - you won't regret it! That being said, for the sake of rating, there are a few things I will mention.

Pros:
-Walking into the Olympic Lodge we were immediately impressed with the beauty of the grounds and the spacious, comfortable common areas.

-The rooms were spacious, the bathroom was well designed with a separate vanity area outside the main bath, and the beds were comfortable (except the bedspread as noted below).

Cons:
-We did have to wait 15-20 minutes upon arrival to check in and you could feel the tension and exhaustion of the front desk clerk. The hostess at the buffet was also grumpy. In my opinion, the staff's job is to make your experience comfortable and pleasant. That is hard to accomplish when they convey that kind of negative energy.

-We didn't care for the bedspreads (that shiny, polyester stuff).

-Also, while many might enjoy the breakfast buffet, for $5 each with a large family, it was no great shakes for us. It was an eggs/bacon at Denny's type experience. We prefer more healthy options and some of us ended up eating very little. The fresh fruit was very thin slices of grapefruit, no yogurt, no good tea options, etc. There were the standard make-you-own-waffles, which the kids enjoy; however, this type of breakfast is typically included in the price which reduces the value of the hotel.

Honestly, overall the hotel was a reasonably nice experience for the price and we will most likely return.

  • Liked — View of the golf course hill behind the hotel seen from rear rooms and lobby, spacious rooms.
  • Disliked — Moody staff, breakfast not included in the price (especially since there were few healthy options).

We stayed here on an overnight from Seattle while exploring the Olympic penisula. The room was very comfortable. Even though they did not have "mountain" view (really golf course view) the room was very quiet even with highway just 100 yards away.
Hot breakfast is a real deal for $5 including fresh made waffles; the breakfast closes a little early (10:00am) for the weekend travelers. When we called hotel directly on short notice they said they were sold out, but we were able to get a room through travelocity.
