I'll start by saying that when we ordered the margherita pizza, the waitress told us the restaurant was out of roma tomatoes. As this is a staple of Italian food, we were confused but ate here anyway due to the extremely poor selection of restaurants in town. When we arrived the hostess asked us if we had a reservation which was also confusing since there was no one in the restaurant. It later became apparent that the prime tables had been saved for friends and family of the staff. The food was average, nothing special.

Also, as this is apparently the restaurant where "Edward and Bella went for their first date" in the Twilight series, there is some totally invalid claim to celebrity going on with the staff of this restaurant. Although Port Angeles is billed as a tourist destination for visitors to Victoria and Olympic National Park, the service we received everywhere in this town was very poor. This town is not welcoming to tourists.

Bella Italia is one of the best restaurants in Port Angeles, although not necessarily in my personal favorite style of Italian food. If you want large portions and the heavier New Jersey style of Italian fare, this is the place for you. The staff are very friendly and helpful and they have a good wine list.

We chose Bella based on trip adviser reviews. We were greeted by a dandy fellow who asked if we had reservations. Since the place was empty I thought that was a absurd statement, as we were in Port Angeles, not Frisco.
He seated us at a table and proceeded to pick my cell phone up off the table and move it!
Unbelievable bad behavior and etiquette.
Sitting next to us was a motormouth attorney talking about blood spatter and crime scenes. Autopsies were thrown in for good measure. The management said nothing to them as other patrons were annoyed by this macabre conversation.
The food which was on the same par as canned. and at $ 17.00, did not come with any sides.
Large pieces of garlic were in the pasta surely to ruin any future amorous or social plans..
A few measly pieces of cold bread were served.
When the bread plate was empty they took it and did not ask if we wanted more.
Overall a horrible experience, amateurish staff, mediocre expensive food.
Save yourself the trouble and get tv dinners.

This was our first visit to Bella Italia. We had family in town and had been waiting for an excuse to try out what appeared to be a good Italian restaurant.

THE AMBIANCE - The on-street parking was easy to find as was the restaurant. Inside we found a small sit down bar and area to check in for our reservation. The hostess was on the phone taking an order so there was some wait and not even a glance to let us know she knew we were there...but she was very involved in getting the order correct so that can be forgiven. The decor is charming and the spacing between tables is generous. So in general our first impression was good.

THE SERVICE - Several people attended to us during dinner. The service was at the "just right" level...not too much and not too little. We found the hostess charming.

THE FOOD - The menu has a great mix of the typical Italian dishes. Here is what we tried:

- The Chicken Parmigiana was a large portion of chicken, with a Parmesan crust (as is disclosed by the menu) and covered the tomato sauce and cheese. A little too rich for my taste but our family inhaled it.
- The Italian Sausage Pizza actually had a crisp crust right to the center...amazing! We seem to keep finding "wimpy" pizza that sags in the middle due to under cooking so the family was pleasantly surprised.
- The Fettucine Alfredo was very rich and the only disappointing dish we had. It had an over abundance of oil or butter as it was swimming. The pasta was also a little under al dente.
- The Berry Crumble desert was delicious though the crumble was very moist and not crunchy at all so just a touch less than what we had expected.
- The Affogato (espresso with ice cream) was the best one of our family members had ever tasted.

OVERALL - We will be back! We will stay away from the richer dishes as the amount of floating fat was a bit overwhelming but the restaurant has great flavors and we look forward to trying more of the menu.
